In The Most Expensive Lie of All by Michelle Conder, Cruz Rodriquez switch from the polo field to the boardroom has made him a very wealthy man. His past life as a polo player is behind him but he never forgot the woman whose little scheme robbed Cruz TMELOAout of a fortune in money and, more importantly, lost him the respect of his family and peers. Now she is the hitch in his latest deal and this time Cruz is gonna make her pay.

Champion horse breeder Aspen has never forgotten Cruz – their searing encounter was the one pleasure in her increasingly desperate life. So when darkly handsome Cruz reappears with a multimillion-dollar investment offer, Aspen is torn. She may crave his touch, but beneath his glittering black eyes lies a deception that could prove more costly than ever before!

‘Aspen?’
She saw hunger and desire in his eyes and it made her feel hot all over. Maybe she could do this. Maybe.
She glanced at his hand, wondered if she was as crazy as her uncle had suggested, and placed hers in it.
He smiled.
She swallowed.

Michelle Conder is a fabulous writer and as her previous books have shown, she knows how to hook the readers on to the story from the first page. The Most Expensive Lie of All has a story based on misunderstandings which get cleared up throughout the story. I liked how there was a nice interlinking of the past and the present. Cruz was a likable hero and though there was not much connection, I understood his actions. Aspen was a strong heroine and I liked her but it was irritating to read about her ex husband almost every time when the story is told from her POV.

My problem with the book was that I did not feel connected to any part of the story and it was really odd because I loved the author’s previous book but this one did not leave me hooked like her other books did. It was good but Michelle Conder has done better.

Overall The Most Expensive Lie of All by Michelle Conder has a good story with likable characters but not on par with the author’s previous works.
