Today, HJ is pleased to share with you Cheryl Harper’s new release: Pride and Presents

Spotlight&Giveaway

Hey, thanks for letting me drop in!

Beth Long is navigating the week before a friend’s Christmas wedding with a strained smile and an unexpected houseguest. Instead of dreading the arrival of her ex-husband and his gold medal-winning fiancée, she’s defending Christmas Town’s over-the-top everything to disapproving Steven Dorsey, old friend of the groom.

Steven has never been more aware of his social deficiencies. Beth is too warm. Witty. Vibrant. Their elderly audience is too nosy. When his sister is added to the mix, he understands that Beth and this snow globe village come to life might be home.

Enjoy an exclusive excerpt from Pride and Presents

“Kyle Long, Steven. You didn’t tell me he’d be here,” Alexis said loudly enough that everyone could hear. When Kyle laughed, her cheeks flooded with color.
Kyle offered his hand. “We haven’t met.” He didn’t introduce himself, but Steven shook his hand.
“No, we haven’t.” Steven shook Veronica’s hand as well and then nodded at the Knotty Elves.
Beth was considering how to smooth over this awkward social situation, mainly for Alexis’s benefit. They’d been so close to watching Kyle leave, but now Steven was here, blocking the door.
Kyle’s smile faded as he understood that Steven wasn’t going to introduce himself or fawn like his normal interactions.
Beth had to wonder if Steven even knew who Kyle was.
“That’s Steven Dorsey. Big shot engineer. Rich guy.” Prudence had cupped one had to her mouth and her words carried through the shop.
Kyle’s eyes shot to hers. Why? She couldn’t decipher his question, but the light came on over her head as she felt Steven’s hand slide up her back to her nape.
That was the move a man staking a claim.
The same move as Veronica’s hand on Kyle’s arm.
Steven was doing his best to convince Kyle and everyone else in the shop that they were a couple.
And the woman inside, the one desperate enough to grab at this straw to convince everyone she was perfectly okay after the divorce, decided to lean into it.
“Good day working on the carousel?” she murmured as she looked up into Steven’s eyes. It was the kind of thing she might ask a boyfriend.
“Sure, but I missed you.” Steven pressed a quick kiss against her lips. It was too quick to register, but the shocked, pleased murmuring from the Knotty Elves at the window registered loud and clear.

Yes because I married at Christmas in the 90s so what made it special was it was my own

I went to one Christmas wedding, and the church was decorated so pretty.

My nephew was married on Dec 21st , 2013. What made it special? The bridesmaids wore red dresses and carried white muffs that carried me back to my childhood when I owned a white, soft and fluffy muff. The church and reception were decorated with beautiful poinsettia plants and evergreen boughs. There was even a huge Christmas tree decorated with red lights and red ornaments and lights. The tables held glass vase jars filled with red and green Christmas ball ornaments. Little white fairy lights and candle light accented the room. Everyone was in a festive mood and excited about the upcoming Christmas holidays. It brought our family together from four different states to celebrate the wedding and Christmas. Downtown Milwaukee and the hotel where we stayed and the church were all decorated too as an added bonus. There was a blizzard that night but luckily our hotel was across the street from the reception hall. The snow added a beautiful, soft, clean, wintery touch.. The bride and groom even ventured outside with the photographer without their coats to capture the moment. It was a magical night.

I forgot to add that I love carousels. The Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison has a gorgeous one with wild animals that my grandchildren love to ride every zoo visit. Ella’s Deli was a long standing restaurant also in Madison. It recently closed. It had a huge carousel in front of the restaurant. Apparently a business on the west side of Madison purchased the carousel to restore. I believe they are going to put it in front of their business.

Closest I’ve come is being a witness at a almost Christmas visit to a justice of the peace. No decor. But the couple was head over heels in love.

Although I’ve never been to a Christmas wedding, I think it would be wonderful to be married at that time of year – provided everything worked out. 🙂 With my luck, even with all the planning, I could see a massive snow storm with power outages destroying all that planning. Maybe that’s an idea for a book. 🙂 To me though it would be better to have a extremely small gathering in a little country church with nature’s beauty and hopefully a little snow for a back drop to exchange vows of love and future dedication to live as one in God’s wholly union. Now that would be a Christmas wedding to write a book about.

No I have never been to a Christmas wedding. I think a Christmas wedding could be so beautiful. It wouldn’t matter if it’s big, small or in between it would be magical.

My husband’s brother got married on Christmas Day. His now wife insisted on it and no one really knew why. There were not many friends or family involved. Sad to say, but it was a big inconvenience for everyone. It was in Orlando, home for both families, but we lived in Northern New York on the Canadian border with a 2 and 3 year old. It is a long drive and worse at the holidays. That time of year in Orlando is not fun, too crowded. We never have nor do we now like traveling on holidays. The church was busy, so a small ceremony in the afternoon was planned. The only caterer they could find dropped everything off in the church kitchen the day prior. The cake was also delivered the day before the wedding. Even the minister was in a hurry to get the short ceremony over and leave. A 10 minute ceremony and a cold buffet, clean-up, and all done in less than an hour and a half.. Since most people were local, they had family functions that were interrupted to attend and this took a chunk out of a day meant for being with your family. If they had the wedding on the 24th or 26th, it would have been more considerate to those who attended.
