Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Gillian Archer to HJ!
Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Gillian and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Rough Ride!

Thank you so much for having me!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

ROUGH RIDE is a stand-alone novel all about newly patched motorcycle club member, Bam, and the daughter of a deceased MC member, Amber. While searching for information about her father’s death, Amber catches the attention of a local Bratva member, and it’s Bam’s job to make sure the mafia leaves her alone. There’s the usual MC shenanigans, crazy family drama, and as always hot, hot love scenes!

Please share the opening lines of this book:

I heard the front door shut and rolled over to look at my alarm clock. Two-thirty in the morning. How pathetic was it that I was in bed streaming TV shows until the early hours at the ripe ol’ age of twenty while my parents were the ones out painting the town red?

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • ROUGH RIDE is the fourth book in the True Brothers MC series, but all can be read as standalones.
  • Bam was the first hero who I *had* to write his story given all the reader requests. He was so mysterious and (I hope) achingly vulnerable that readers wanted to know more about him.
  • Like the first three books, characters from previous stories pop in so you’ll get to see some familiar faces.

Please tell us a little about the characters in your book. As you wrote your protagonist was there anything about them that surprised you?

In the first draft of ROUGH RIDE, Amber was a receptionist. My beta reader pointed out that I already had a heroine in this series with that job then brought up the idea of changing it to cocktail waitress. Writing about a heroine with a provocative job while dating an alpha male was so much fun! Amber doesn’t take any crap for the job she does for her family and Bam really struggles with watching her stride around the casino in her tiny dress.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

Probably the first time the hero and heroine truly meet. Sparks fly when he literally carries her out of a bar!

Ruslan ducked his head and kissed the top her head, staring at us the whole time. “I’m sorry we were interrupted, moya zvezda. I will deal with Viktor later, but I’m afraid my next meeting is here. I believe you know these . . . gentlemen?”
“That’s not fucking funny, malcik.” Axle leaned forward and pointed a finger at Ruslan. His voice was practically a growl as he continued. “I know who the fuck you’re fucking, and it stops now. Amber is club property. No one fucks with True Brothers property.”
Amber put her hands on her hips and turned her glare Axle’s way. “Fuck you.”
“What did you just say to me, princess?” Axle’s voice went low and deep in that way of his when he was really, really pissed.
Oh shit. There was no way this was gonna end well.
“Fuck. You,” she said slowly like she was talking to a toddler, only with cursing. “I’m not club property. I’ve never been fucking club property. You all can take your precious club and shove it up your asses.”
Axle let out a strangled sound as he clenched his fists. A muscle flexed in his jaw when he finally spoke. “Bam, get her the hell out of here before I—”
I stepped forward, leaned my shoulder into Amber’s stomach, and had her over my shoulder before she or Ruslan could mutter a protest.
Amber shrieked and banged her fists against my back. “Put me down, you goddamn behemoth.”
Ruslan yelled something in Russian behind me, but I didn’t pause in stride. I was halfway down the hall before the doors at the other end slammed open. There was more yelling in Russian, but three steps later I was out the back door and standing in the quiet parking lot. Well, quiet except for the yelling and creative cursing coming from Amber.
“Ooomph.” I tightened my grip on her flailing legs when she managed to connect with my stomach. Crossing the parking lot, I eyed my bike with resignation. This was probably the only time I wished I’d brought a cage—my truck would’ve made getting this wildcat home a hell of a lot easier. Unable to avoid the inevitable, I stopped next to my bike and gently lowered the girl to her feet.
“Finally,” she huffed. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”
“Me? You’re shitting me, right?” I raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms. “You were in there dry-humping the craziest guy in the fucking Russian Mafia, and you think there’s something wrong with me?”
“I wasn’t dry-humping him,” she muttered while her cheeks flamed red. It would’ve been endearing if she wasn’t being such a pain in my ass. “Ruslan kissed me.”
Like that made a fucking difference. “I didn’t see you shoving him off of you.”
“He’s crazy.” Amber shivered despite the warm August night. She crossed her arms over her chest in a stance similar to mine, but where I was pissed, she looked so small and vulnerable—like she was trying to protect herself. Until she opened her mouth and the sass poured out. “I was doing whatever I could to get the hell out of there.”
“You shouldn’t have been there in the first fucking place. Howl is not a goddamn college hangout. There’s a reason why it’s in the middle of fucking nowhere. You don’t belong here.”
“I had to be here. I wanted to know what happened to my dad and his killer. And you guys kept stonewalling me. Because men and their business was more important than fucking family.”
“Bullshit. How’d you even know to come here in the first place?” What happened with Stitch and his killer was club business. No one outside of the club and the Bratva knew what went down. Or should’ve known. So how did Amber know to show up here to ask questions?
She shook her head and scowled but didn’t say anything. I could respect the balls it took to come here on her own, but she was too young and inexperienced to play on the same level as Ruslan and his crew.
Which reminded me.
I narrowed my eyes at her. “Are you even old enough to be in a bar? Let me see your ID.”
“Of course I am. I work in a casino.” Amber patted her thighs before she looked up at me with another scowl. “But I don’t have my ID. Ruslan’s goon took my purse, along with my phone and house keys. I would’ve had them back and been on my way home but for you three and your fucking caveman routine. Now what am I gonna do?”

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

Like with all my books, family takes different shapes and isn’t necessarily the one you were born with. Everyone deserves unconditional love.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned for 2017?

I’m beginning a new series, BURNS BROTHERS, that will revolve around a group of brothers who run a custom motorcycle shop ala Orange County Choppers—lots of alpha males and dysfunctional family drama. Book 1 – BUILD features the oldest brother who’s snowed in with his cleaning lady. BUILD will be out in November.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Book Info:

Amber: Two years ago I would’ve made a play for a guy like “Bam” in a heartbeat. That was before my father died in a puddle of blood in the middle of a parking lot, before I swore off his fellow bikers and their stupid “business.” But I still need answers about what happened to my dad, which is why I’m poking around at a nightclub owned by the Russian mafia. And that’s where I run into Bam, who carries me out of the club in his ridiculously strong arms like I was True Brothers property.

Bam: Motorcycle club princess Amber Bennett is the last person I’d expect to see at a club like Howl. She’s flirting with some dangerous people, and it’s my duty to step in and protect her before she gets in over her head. Like I don’t have enough on my mind without cleaning up Amber’s drama. Besides, she’s the definition of off-limits. If only she weren’t so f***ing hot. And determined to take care of everything herself. And oddly vulnerable. Because when we cross the line, I’m forced to choose between my true family—or my true feelings.

Meet the Author:

Multi-published author Gillian Archer has always loved books. And has had a serious soft spot for romances ever since the tender age of twelve, when she would steal her mother’s Harlequin books and read them under the covers with a flashlight. But the writing bug didn’t hit until over ten years later after a dare from the husband. (It might have also involved a wall-bangingly bad book.) Now she can’t imagine doing anything else.
Outside of writing, Gillian loves to spend time snuggling with her husband, playing with their dog, and traveling to exotic places. After living abroad for four years, she is very happy to be back in the U.S. with the wonders of Walmart.

I like facial hair on different types of men. Like a mountain man shouldn’t be clean cut. A biker should have atleast a goatee. However, a CEO should be clean shaven. I guess it depends on the man’s role.

  2. kermitsgirl

I’ll take em any which way – but I do love it when a normally clean-shaven hero is scruffy because he’s tormented.
