Homefront Defenders by Lisa Philips was quite full of twists and turns, and so skillfully written. The main character, Alana, a “rookie” secret service agent on one of the teams charged with protecting the President, is in her home state of Hawaii for the first time in years, as her team protects the President on his vacation.

Alana has mixed emotions about being back in Hawaii, after leaving on poor terms with her siblings when their father passed away years before. When Alana’s visit begins with an attempt on her life, the twists and turns rapidly begin. Her supervisor, Locke, is determined to stay by her side every second as they determine who is trying to harm her and if the suspect is ultimately aiming to assassinate the president.

Their pursuit of answers brings Alana in contact with her brother, a police officer, and her sister, a reporter. Her sister is dating a local organized crime boss with whom Alana attended school. Each time Alana and Locke feel they are close to clearing the way for a safe presidential visit, there are closer and closer “calls” as additional attempts are made on both their lives.

Will they figure out who is responsible in time to save the President? and in time to prevent their own deaths? Will they also start to recognize and act on feelings between each other that are not those of mentor and trainee? If you are interested in finding out, it’s time for you to read “Homefront Defenders. I hope you enjoy!
