We are excited to share some of St. Martin’s Press Most Anticipated 2023 Releases:
1. Cara Tanamachi’s THE SECOND YOU’RE SINGLE (On-sale January 31, 2023)
When freelance writer Sora Reid’s pledge to stay single in February goes viral, and inspires readers to #gosolo, she figures it’ll be easy to avoid the opposite sex for a month. Enter Jack Mann. A muscle-bound baker who looks like he lifts logs on the weekends, Sora hasn’t thought of Jack since they were in elementary school together.
When they see each other at the local grocery store and the attraction hits hard, Sora knows she has to shut it down, quick. She can’t #gosolo AND get the guy. She can’t let down her readers. And relationships always end, so why should Jack be any different–even though he’s confounding all her long-held expectations of love?
2. Emilia Hart’s WEYWARD (On-sale March 7, 2023)
Weaving together the stories of three extraordinary women across five centuries, Emilia Hart’s Weyward is an enthralling novel of female resilience and the transformative power of the natural world.
2019: Under cover of darkness, Kate flees London for ramshackle Weyward Cottage, inherited from a great aunt she barely remembers. Soon, Kate begins to suspect that her great aunt had a secret. One that lurks in the bones of the cottage, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century.
1619: Altha is awaiting trial for the murder of a local farmer who was stampeded to death by his herd. As a girl, Altha’s mother taught her their magic, a kind not rooted in spell casting but in a deep knowledge of the natural world. But unusual women have always been deemed dangerous, and as the evidence for witchcraft is set out against Altha, she knows it will take all of her powers to maintain her freedom.
1942: As World War II rages, Violet is trapped in her family’s grand, crumbling estate. Straitjacketed by societal convention, she longs for the robust education her brother receives––and for her mother, long deceased, who was rumored to have gone mad before her death. The only traces Violet has of her are a locket bearing the initial W and the word weyward scratched into the baseboard of her bedroom.
3. Sally Hepworth’s THE SOULMATE (On-sale April 4, 2023)
There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs behind it have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t. When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral…Did the victim jump? Was she pushed? And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate…lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.
4. Katherine Center’s HELLO STRANGER (On-sale July 11, 2023)
Sadie Montogmery has had good breaks and bad breaks in her life, but as a struggling artist, all she needs is one lucky break. Things seem to be going her way when she lands one of the coveted finalist spots in a portrait competition. It happens to coincide with a surgery she needs to have. But, upon recovery, it begins to dawn on Sadie that she can see everything around her, but she can no longer see faces. As she struggles to cope—and hang onto her artistic dreams—she finds solace in her fourteen-year-old dog, Peanut. Thankfully, she can still see animal faces.
When Peanut gets sick, she rushes him to the emergency vet nearby. That’s when she meets veterinarian Dr. Addison. And she’s pleasantly surprised when he asks her on a date. But she doesn’t want anyone to know about her face blindness. Least of all Joe, her obnoxious neighbor. He’s always there at the most embarrassing but convenient times, and soon, they develop a sort of friendship. But could it be something more? As Sadie tries to save her career, and handle falling in love with two different guys, she realizes that happiness can be found in the places—and people— you least expect.
5. Sarah Pekkanen’s GONE TONIGHT (On-sale August 1, 2023)
Catherine Sterling thinks she knows her mother. Ruth Sterling is quiet, hardworking, and lives for her daughter. All her life, it’s been just the two of them against the world. Now, Catherine is ready to spread her wings, move away from home, and begin a new career. But Ruth Sterling will do anything to prevent that from happening.
Ruth Sterling thinks she knows her daughter. Catherine would never rebel, or question anything about her mother’s past. But when Ruth’s desperate quest to keep Catherine by her side begins to crumble, both mother and daughter begin a dance of deception. No one can know Ruth’s history. There’s a reason she kept them moving every few years, and why she’s always ready–in a moment’s notice–to be gone in the night. But danger is closing in. Is it coming from the outside, or from within?
