Crowning His Secret Princess by Kate Hardy Sebastien has been working to learn about how to be the King of Charlmoux. The current king is getting older and having health issues. He wants to step down in the near future. The King and Queen’s son who would have become King died about 25 years ago. Seb had been elected by Parliament to be a royal.

Everything seems on track until a box of the late Prince Louis is discovered. In it are photos of Louis and a Catherine Wilson at their wedding at a clerk’s office in Manhattan. Even more interesting is a birth certificate for a child, Louisa Veronica Gallet, the surname of the royal family. Louis was deceased before the child was born. This information changes everything. Louisa could be the royal heir and Seb would no longer be in line for the throne.

Louisa works in the family bridal wear business and at Heritage Centre. Her mother died from cancer when Louisa was sixteen, but she has had plenty of family support She is curious about an appointment with Sebastian Moreau who mentioned heritage. When he mentions her father’s family she becomes angry since they weren’t ever in contact with her mother or her. Seb asks her for a DNA sample. She is against it at first, but has to do it to prove she is the heir before she can renounce the throne of Charlmoux.

This starts both Louisa and Seb on a journey fraught with drama and resentment. Can the two of them face the future or will that lead to more hurt?

As the author says in her beginning notes the secret baby trope had Louisa in that role. She has to deal with a lot, but seems able to slowly come to terms with different, difficult emotions and situations.

Seb seems to have a very calm demeanor and is very organized. Under all of his practically,
there is a passionate soul who has passed by love in the past in favor of his duty.
The romance builds very slowly, but you can look at this story as sort of a modern Cinderella. I loved that Charlmox spoke French. Even though it’s been many years since my high school French class, I could understand all the phrases included.

If you want uplifting fairy tale to take you away from daily stress then Crowning His Secret Princess is the right book for you.
