His Guilt: Shelley Shepard Gray never fails to draw me in with her writing! She is so skilled and so descriptive. And, this series is one of those unusual series in which each book could be read so far as a stand alone.
In “His Guilt”, readers are introduced to Waneta, a young Amish lady in Hart County, Kentucky, who is suddenly brought in close contact in her workplace with Mark Fisher, a young man suspected by many of assaulting a lady a few years ago. Although he was proven innocent, many still believe he was responsible. When Mark returns to the town, Horse Cave, many in the community warn Waneta against working with him or spending time talking with him, even though their boss, Henry, trusts him and vouches for his character . Waneta at first is uneasy but begins to enjoy Mark’s company and feels special on the receiving end of his protective and caring attention.
Unfortunately there are new attacks on young women in the community and each time fingers are pointed at Mark. Can the sheriff find the correct person responsible for these attacks? Mark strives to show the community that he is a contributing member of society and that he is trying to overcome his very difficult upbringing.
In many ways, this is a story of fresh starts. For Mark, for his brother Calvin, for Lora, an acquaintance of theirs who grabs the interest of the local deputy. It is also a story of showing the importance of giving people a chance and of not listening to hurtful gossip.
This is definitely a book I will read again, as I re read all of Gray’s books.

Neeta is one of the few people in Hart County who doesn’t believe Mark is guilty of hurting anyone. However, his worldliness and tough exterior do make her uneasy. As she begins to see the real man behind all the gossip and prejudice, she wonders if he is the man for her.
Just when Mark starts to believe a new life is possible, a close friend of Neeta’s is attacked. Once again, everyone in the community seems to believe he is guilty.
