Miracle Twins For the Midwife by Louisa Heaton: Natalie left her home small town Montana after a romance turned out to be a total fraud and she was left with serious injuries after a car accident. She has now healed, for the most part, and thinks her skills as a midwife could be used at a hospital in NYC.

Her first night there is New Years Eve. She goes to a club, dances and drinks quite a bit with a handsome man. The instant attraction leads to what Natalie believes will be a one night stand. Imagine her shock when she reports for work the next day and the handsome stranger of her night of passion is one of the attending doctors in the OBGYN department of the hospital.

Dr. Henry is the object of crushes by most of the female staff . Part of it he is gorgeous, but he also extremely kind to both staff and patients. It helps that he has a posh sounding British accent. Natalie finds working him becomes easier after they both decide they can be just friends.

Being more than friends becomes impossible after Natalie finds out she is pregnant from the one night stand. She didn’t realize what her symptoms were because she thought she could never get pregnant after the serious injuries from the accident. I did find it a little humorous that she didn’t recognize her symptoms right after, but many of us “swim in the river of denial” all too often.

Henry has his own serious issues from his fairly recent past and isn’t too sure how to deal with being a father, especially when it turns out Natalie is carrying twins. Can the two of them come to a compromise that will be right for their babies?

Henry was my favorite character. His kindness and empathy were exceptional. That is just as important as skills when it comes to dealing with different births. The slow reveal of his past hurts was done perfectly and it’s easy to see how he had a hard time dealing with things.

The author did a lot of research and it shows in the authentic scenes of deliveries that certainly added lots of suspense to the plot. I have read quite a few medical romances recently and am always amazed how true to life they are.

My only critique in this emotionally engaging novel is that Natalie doesn’t come across as a woman from Montana. There are quite a few instances where she uses phrase that seem very British. I did love her work ethic and how good she was with all the patients.

Natalie’s story starts off with the New Year. You need to start your New Year with this novel.

I can definitely relate to it taking you out of a story a bit when a character is supposed to be North American yet they’re speaking in British terms. I had a similar experience with a book a couple weeks back where it was set in the US yet spellings like “tyre” instead of tire and “kerb” instead of curb was used, it’s not like it makes a book bad, it just distracts at times.

It is always interesting to see how accurate medical romances are. It really shows when an author does their research and it is appreciated. A move to NYC from Montana would certainly be quite a change. I can see a bit of celebration for the new start. Thank you for the review and the recommendation.

Being kind and having a sexy accent can definitely make someone more attractive
