On My Knees by Meredith Wild: Survival. Sometimes we don’t realize that life isn’t something we need to just go through, it’s something that we need to truly live. Maya and Cameron correct that image and show us that life is worth living even when we have to battle every step of the way to get there.

20263223Maya is a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, not much family to speak of and a life made of trying to make things better without realizing what it she truly needs isn’t material. While she works like a dog all day at what is seemingly a dead end job, she then acts like a drunk all night every night trying to forget and move on. She is living with the outcomes of her choices without realizing that she can change her future.

Cameron was the privileged soul, coming from money and from the “right” sort of family he made a break from that life when he realized it wasn’t what he wanted to be. So he joined the Army and several tours later he realized that he too was still running from the one really right thing he had had in his life.

When Maya and Cameron meet again five years later the drama couldn’t be more intense but can they realize life is more about more than just survival?

Meredith Wild is so unbelievable in this novel. I have to start with telling you I’m not a huge fan of stories that switch POV’s but somehow she made this work and made it flow so it wasn’t awkward at all. She tells this story brilliantly making you feel every decision, every heartache and every pleasure. If I have to register a complaint it’s that this is the first in a series and the next one is not ready for my eyes yet. Pick up this book, but give yourself some time because you won’t want to put it down.
