One More Kiss by Samantha Chase is the first spin-off book of her Shaughnessy Brothers series. This new series features the members of Riley Shaughnessy’s band. First up is Matt Reed. When the band decides to take a break, he decides to try Broadway. When his show is closed after only three performances, Matt is hounded by the paparazzi. He escapes to his friend Aaron Forrester’s secluded home, where he runs into Aaron’s sister Vivienne.
Vivienne had run into Matt a couple years earlier at a Shaughnessy concert. After a humiliating escort off the premises, Vivienne hadn’t expected to see him again. At first she’s angry that he doesn’t remember their interaction, but when she comes to understand him and his childhood, which led him to being a little messed up at the time, her anger lessens.
I liked Vivienne. When Matt was hiding out throwing himself a pity party, she called him out on it. She tries to make him see that hiding out wasn’t helping him move past his Broadway embarrassment and the rumors swirling around about him.
“All I’m saying is maybe it’s time to stop hiding and go on with your life. Clearly the hermit thing isn’t helping. The only thing it seems to be doing is making you obsess about it and doubt yourself. How is that a good thing?”
Vivienne has own issues, including issues with her parents not treating her the way they treat her brother. Instead of saying anything to them, she finds herself able to confide in Matt. In turn, she eventually gains the confidence to face her issues.
The chemistry between Matt and Vivienne was great. It wasn’t an instant romance, but instead they built up a friendship and worked their way up to a romantic relationship.
This was a great start to this series, and after getting a glimpse at some of the other band members, I’m looking forward to reading their stories.
If you enjoy the brother’s best friend trope or stories about rock stars, I recommend reading this book.
