Paramedic’s One-Night Baby Bombshell by Amy Ruttan: Jo decides she needs to get away from Toronto with all the memories of her late husband. An opportunity comes when a fellow doctor asks if she will take over his medical practice for a year while he goes to Germany. The practice is in the isolated town of Fogo in Newfoundland which is the opposite side of Canada. This sounds perfect to Jo.
When Jo first arrives she meets the charming Henrik. Henrik makes a practice of having one night stands with tourists who will leave and there is no attachment. He thinks Jo is a tourist and she agrees to a night of passion.
The one night stand has consequences. Despite using birth control, Jo is pregnant. In a way, she is excited because she was thinking she’d never be a mother. She waits a while to tell Henrik who ends up working with her since he is an experienced paramedic. He is stunned by the news, but wants to be involved. The biggest problem is Jo is supposed to leave after the year. Henrik is tied to Fogo and doesn’t want to move. Will the two make a compromise so the baby can have both parents around?
I admired Jo for her bravery to move to a place that she knew little about. I also laughed, but admired her as she dealt with some pranks from the people of Fogo. You can see how she is still trying to move on from her husband’s death. Under everything she is a very caring person both is her professional and personal life.
Henrik has the reputation of being a rake or rogue, to borrow from the English Regency era. He has been burned in love before and so stays far away from relationships. You can see how he slowly comes to respect and truly care about Jo.
I enjoyed knowing more about the setting of this novel. It’s embarrassing to admit I know little about Canada except from a few books such as author Louise Penney’s series. I always say that whenever I read any book, I come away with new knowledge. I give admiration and thanks to author Amy Ruttan for entertaining with a charming love story and teaching new things.

It’s nice to see a book set in Canada, I don’t see that very often.

It is fun to learn about different locations in a book. Canada is one of my favorites.
Summer
I like it when a book not only is set somewhere a bit different than the usual New York or London, but better still when that setting is actually incorporated into the story in a satisfying way, I’ll have to look out for this one.
