Second Chance to Wear His Ring by Hana Sheik: Mansur Ali has left Somaliland behind and built his business in America. His mother calls him and tells him it’s very important that he come home. Once there, he finds out Amal, the woman who had rejected his marriage proposal a year ago, is in a bad way. After suffering an accident, she has a form of amnesia. She can remember early memories, but not more recent ones.

Mansur, who now prefers to be called Manny, decides he will get Amal better treatment and tests in Addis Ababa. He now has the means to take her there in a private jet.

Manny has lots of ambition and drive, but underneath it all he is kind and caring both to his mother and Amal. He sometimes seems to feel guilty that he left his mother behind, even though he stays in close touch.

Amal cares for Manny, but doesn’t remember how she rejected his marriage proposal. You can see why she was unable to commit to him back then because of his attitude and issues. Both Amal and Manny have some serious “daddy” issues that are tough for anyone to deal with.

Manny has to decide what to do with the future once he finds out about his father’s will conditions. It is easy to relate to his problems. Many of us have had to deal with family issues following the death of a parent.

The love story between Manny and Amal builds slowly and is very sweet. Second chance romances are a favorite of mine. They give hope in the turmoil of everyday life.

I love that I had the pleasure of reading another debut novel. Hana Sheik offers an entrance into a culture far different from those of us in the Western world. The settings and cuisine enhance the storyline a great deal. I wish the author continued success.
