In The Angel Wore Fangs (Deadly Angels #7) by Sandra Hilll, Viking vampire angel Cnut The-Angel-Wore-FangsSigurdsson has learned over the centuries to control his gluttony, the sin that ended his life and turned him into a Vangel, but the temptation is always there. He and his brothers have spent the years fighting Lucipires, or demon vampires, but now he is tasked by archangel Michael to also fight the extremist group ISIS. If it were just his own safety to worry about, Cnut wouldn’t mind so much. But pastry chef Andrea Stewart’s sister is being held against her will by the group at a ranch in Montana and Andy’s counting on him to help save her.

“…I am a selfish glutton. I ate, nay, gorged myself while others starved. I cared more for my wealth than for those under my shield. My appetites rule me.”

Andy didn’t expect her sister Celie’s savior to be a Viking. Or to find out that beings like vampires and demons are actually real. But even though Cnut, the handsome idiot, may drive her crazy sometimes, she knows he has her and Celie’s best interest at heart. Then they get lost in his attempt to teletransport them to safety and end up back at his former home, Hoggstead in Norseland 850 AD. Cnut and Andy not only have to find a way to save her sister, but now they are in the midst of a crisis that they must help correct. With their feelings continuing to grow daily, she and her Vangel have more than their fair share of obstacles to overcome.

“Idiot! Idiot! Idiot!” she said, smacking him on the shoulder with each word. “Didn’t you hear me say I’ve fallen in love with you?”
“Of course I did, and I thank you for the compliment.”
She smacked him again.
“I was waiting for the right moment to say that I love you, too.”

The Angel Wore Fangs was a paranormal romance that gave the final of the seven Sigurdsson brothers his HEA. But boy did Cnut (pronounced NEWT) have to fight to prove his mettle to Michael and the Big Man Upstairs as he was sent back through time to right past wrongs. Hilarity and humility ensued.

I really love Sandra Hill’s Vangels and the story arc she’s created for the lovable group of men. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I think once you have read about one brother, you’ll just have to read about the rest. I’ve adored their self-deprecating sense of humor from the start and how they still hold on to some of their Viking ways after more than a thousand years as Vangels. And Cnut was one of the brothers I’ve been waiting to get to know better. I mean, picture a Viking vampire angel who looks like Ragnar Lothbrok from the History Channel’s Vikings series. Yep… *sigh*

Since Cnut’s sin was gluttony, this was obviously going to be a book about life’s excesses like food, drink, sex, wealth, etc. And I loved seeing how much he had changed over the last millennia. It got especially interesting, though, once Andrea was introduced into his life considering she was a pastry chef. He was once again tempted by food, plus the lure of Andrea herself. So when Cnut was sent back to 850 AD, it would have been easy for him to give in to his old ways. Watching him fight that as well as do right by Andy proved that he was a man of his word and worthy of ruling Hoggstead.

Andy was a great heroine. She was smart as a whip but was completely out of her element not only going back in time but also in dealing with Vangels and Lucipires. She was admittedly scared of many, many things but she didn’t let it get her down. I loved seeing her step up to the challenge and keep Cnut in his place. Andy was like a mother hen where she had been taking care of her younger sister Celie for so long and that carried over into her time traveling experience. She and Cnut turned out to be a fun, extremely likable couple who made me laugh and cheer them on.

What’s not to love about Sandra Hill’s Deadly Angels series? Rugged, sexy, comical Vikings. Feisty and intelligent heroines. The fight between good and evil. And while this might be the last Sigurdsson brother novel, it sounds like we’ll be getting to know double agent Zebulan a whole lot better. Yay!

New York Times bestselling author Sandra Hill continues her sexy Deadly Angels series, as a Viking vangel’s otherworldly mission pairs him with a beautiful chef who whets his thousand-year-old appetite . . .

Once guilty of the deadly sin of gluttony, thousand-year-old Viking vampire angel Cnut Sigurdsson is now a lean, mean, vampire-devil fighting machine. His new side-job? No biggie: just ridding the world of a threat called ISIS while keeping the evil Lucipires (demon vampires) at bay. So when chef Andrea Stewart hires him to rescue her sister from a cult recruiting terrorists at a Montana dude ranch, vangel turns cowboy. Yeehaw!

The too-tempting mortal insists on accompanying him, surprising Cnut with her bravery at every turn. But with terrorists stalking the ranch in demonoid form, Cnut teletransports Andrea and himself out of danger—accidentally into the tenth-century Norselands. Suddenly, they have to find their way back to the future to save her family and the world . . . and to satisfy their insatiable attraction.

Nice! So glad you love the series as well, Joan! You are completely right: the humor and heart she fills her stories with makes them come alive. 🙂

Nice! I know…Hill definitely puts those Vangels through their paces and gets them into some seriously funny situations. And Cnut was a very endearing character once you got to know him.
