The Brooding Doc and the Single Mom by Louisa Heaton: Stacey has come back to her small village hometown to leave her past behind. She has her son Jack to care for, but her parents can help sometimes. When Stacey found out she was pregnant, her boyfriend wanted nothing to do with being a father and left. She sees working at the medical practice in the area as a way to live her new life.

Right away Stacey meets Daniel who is a widower working as a GP. It’s easy to see that although he is close to her parents. Daniel is dealing with a lot of pain from the past and doesn’t want any romantic attachment. It is heartwarming that young Jack and Daniel form a bond by doing many fun things together.

Stacey feels a strong attraction to Daniel right away. At the same time she doesn’t want Jack to be disappointed or hurt. Can the two doctors work together and ignore the sparks forming between them?

I loved the small town feel of this story with all its people and traditions. It’ s tough when everyone knows or wants know your business. At the same time, I long for time when there was more closeness and less isolation in neighborhoods.

Daniel has been through a lot with all his loss so it’s no wonder he’s considered to be broody. Most people would hardly be able to function. It seems his helping others has helped him.Stacey has dealt with her own baggage. The author shows her huge capacity for caring while she loves and protects her sweet son.

I loved that the romance was a slow burn and nothing really exploded until about two-thirds through this lovely book.
I have read several other novels by author Louisa Heaton. They are all well written, but this is my favorite so far. I look forward to book #2 in the duo.
