The Marine’s Baby Blues by Victoria Pade: Addie’s life has been very tough in the past year. She had to care for her ailing parents, on her own, since her sister Della couldn’t deal with the situation. After her parents die, Addie is once again stunned when her sister dies and she is left with Poppy, Della’s baby. Addie slowly gets used to her new life. She plans to get married to Sean who says he will help raise the baby. Unfortunately, Sean leaves Addie literally at the altar.
Just about the time Addie believes things couldn’t get worse, Della’s high school boyfriend, Tanner, comes home on leave. There is a good chance that Tanner may be Poppy’s father. Will Tanner take the baby if she is his and leave Addie completely alone?
Tanner has been raised with brothers and has never taken care of a baby. His mother raised her sons to be tough and fearless. This has been a bonus for Tanner as he pursued a career in the Marines. He wants to find out if he is Poppy’s father, but is unsure how he can be a hands on daddy.
I felt sorry for Addie, for the most part, since she had been through the wringer. I was a little peeved with her when she purposely made it extra hard for Tanner to learn how to care for a baby. I know she was afraid she would lose Poppy, but her methods seem rather manipulative and didn’t show her caring side.
The author showed how Tanner had been manipulated by Della, too. Even though Della died young, it was hard to like her since she often lied to get her way. Tanner was raised to be an alpha male, but the reader can see there is a caring side to him behind his strong exterior.
The relationship between Addie and Tanner is slowly built and simmers until it boils over.
The Marine’s Baby Blues is the second in a series. It is well contained on its own. I look forward to new adventures with author Victoria Pade.
