Unexpected Temptation by Samantha Hunter (The Berringers #4): is about elementary school teacher Vanessa Grant and her bodyguard Luke Berringer. Luke was once a wealthy, IT guru working at a very high level to prevent terrorism. Vanessa’s parents died when she was six and as a result, she, along with her brother and sister were turned over to the foster care system. She and her 
siblings were separated almost immediately and lost touch with each other as time went by.
Apparently, Vanessa looks a lot like her sister Julie, whom she has not seen or heard from in years. Julie and Luke were once involved both romantically and professionally, until Julie double-crossed him and stole his software in order to sell it to the highest bidder, or get herself out of a jam. Since Vanessa seems to be a target, Luke is guarding her while searching for Julie and the software. They travel to Puerto Rico together because that is the last place Julie was spotted.
After reading this book, I felt that I had just sat through a crime caper episode, with a little hot sex thrown in to add a romantic element. Although the story was very predictable, it had its moments which I found to be fun and exciting. Vanessa and Luke make a good team, both in and out of the bedroom. Their love scenes are hot, passionate and real, even though being together begins as a farce, in order to bring Julie and her cohorts in crime out of hiding. Both Vanessa and Luke are the bait in this undertaking, and getting hurt both physically or emotionally is a real possibility.
Vanessa turns out to be a very smart cookie, planning and scheming to save those she cares about most. She is the heart and brains of this story, to the point where Ms. Hunter may want to compose a few novellas with Vanessa as a private investigator with her own brand of crime fighting. Overall, a fun adventure with some engaging characters.
