Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Samantha and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, A Cosmic Kind of Love!

Hi Romance Lovers!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

A Cosmic Kind of Love is a story about a New York events planner who accidentally stumbles across a client’s ex-boyfriends video letters… that he sent from on board the International Space Station! Astronaut and events planner, Chris and Hallie’s, worlds eventually collide after Hallie starts sending him video responses to his letters.

Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:

I remember on my first space walk how I felt encompassed in an ocean of stars despite their distance from the station. There’s no way to describe the endlessness. And I remember thinking how poets talked all the time about the connection between stars and fate. I never really believed in that stuff. Standing in among them, the universe a never-ending dark velvet blanket sewn with these stars that glittered like diamonds, I saw the beauty and I saw the science. Never the philosophy.
Yet, I began to wonder now.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • I was inspired to write it while reading the British astronaut, Tim Peake’s, autobiography, Limitless.
  • My heroine Hallie is so RELATABLE. But she’s also unintentionally hilarious. She gets herself into a few situations I think readers will snort-laugh their way through.
  • There may or not be a scene that involves a naked astronaut, a crazy dog, and one accidentally voyeuristic events planner.
  • There are some really cool facts about life on board the International Space Station and some fun hypothesizing about how fantastic a kisser an astronaut might be.

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

My hero, Chris, is first attracted to my heroine, Hallie’s, honesty, humor and ability to be vulnerable.
Hallie is first attracted to Chris’s intelligence and wisdom (and okay, his gorgeous smile) as he shares his experiences on board the International Space Station.

Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?

The aforementioned naked astronaut, crazy dog, and accidentally voyeuristic events planner had me crying laughing while I was writing it because I’ve discovered karma always gets you. Here’s a snippet of “the before” but I’ll leave “the after” for readers to discover:

As I approached the guest room, the sound of Chris humming “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede slowed my steps. He’d put me in the bedroom opposite his. I think I stopped breathing when I realized his door was open.
I definitely stopped breathing when he came into view. His attention was on his cell, not on the voyeur out in the hall, gawking at him in his boxer briefs.
Chris was almost naked.
Before I could talk myself into doing the decent thing and moving away, he curled his fingers into the waistband of his boxers and suddenly they were around his ankles and he was kicking them off.
His ass.
Oh my.
It was a gift from the gods.

Readers should read this book….

if they’re looking for a sexy, funny, emotional, feel-good romantic comedy with a premise plucked from the stars!

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?

I’m currently working on an announced project (another romantic comedy) and after A Cosmic Kind of Love releases, my next release is the final book in my romantic suspense series set in the Scottish Highlands, The Adair Family.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Book Info:

Space is the last thing an event planner and an astronaut need in this charming new romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Samantha Young.

When event planner Hallie Goodman receives party-inspiration material from the bride of her latest wedding project, the last thing she expects to find in the files are digital videos from Darcy’s ex-boyfriend. Hallie knows it’s wrong to keep watching these personal videos, but this guy is cute, funny, and an astronaut on the International Space Station to boot. She’s only human. And it’s not long until she starts sending e-mails and video diaries to his discontinued NASA address. Since they’re bouncing back, there’s no way anyone will ever be able to see them…right?

Christopher Ortiz is readjusting to life on earth and being constantly in the shadow of his deceased older brother. When a friend from NASA’s IT department forwards him the e-mails and video messages Hallie has sent, he can’t help but notice how much her sense of humor and pink hair make his heart race.

Separated by screens, Hallie and Chris are falling in love with each other, one transmission at a time. But can they make their star-crossed romance work when they each learn the other’s baggage?

Never considered an astronaut hero especially with an event planner. So many possibilities! Love the idea! I’m thinking lists vs evidence! Humor! Yes!
The International Space Station flew right over my head one year (in Florida). Kinda freaked me out! Also the thought that people are living on it for a year at a time! Amazing!
