Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Chloe Neill to HJ!

Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Chloe and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you today!

I read like I’m running out of time, because life is finite and my TBR list keeps growing.

I love transportive paranormal fantasy—I want to be taken Somewhere Else, to drown in the sacred and profane details of the author’s world. And I want voice, preferably with sarcasm.

These are a few of my favorite recent reads.

A MASTER OF DJINN, P. Djèlí Clark: The first full-length novel in Clark’s Dead Djinn Universe series, following “The Haunting of Tram Car 015” and “A Dead Djinn in Cairo”, is urban fantasy at its best. A paranormal investigator navigates an alternate 1910s steampunk Cairo with vivid magic and inventive characters, in which Cairo is its own character and every streetcorner holds a story.

GIDEON THE NINTH, Tamsin Muir: I’ve devoured each volume of Muir’s three-book The Locked Tomb series, which features necromancers in post-apocalyptic space. Muir has created a deeply complex world in which necromancers and their cavaliers fight for their kingdoms and their lives. There’s much the reader doesn’t know, but it’s so damned readable! Muir is a master with dark humor, and Gideon’s voice in particular rings with pitch perfect sarcasm. I eagerly anticipate the fourth (and final?) book in the series: ALECTO THE NINTH. Or an advanced reader copy. Or a copy of the marked-up manuscript. Whatever’s easiest.

THE INHERITANCE OF ORQUÍDEA DIVINA, Zoraida Córdova: Lush. That’s how I’d describe this generation-spanning story of romance, hope, and revenge. As the Montoya family learns, sometimes those ties bind us together; sometimes they hold us back from each other. The story centers around the eponymous Orquídea, the home she’s created, and the landscape of magic that surrounds them all.

THE YEAR OF THE WITCHING, Alexis Henderson: Dark and gothic, this witchy novel is a perfect autumn read. Set in a controlling Colonial village, the heroine learns the lines between good and evil—and religion and magic—are much less clear than she’d been taught. Perfect for fans of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale.

WESTSIDE, W.M. Akers: Akers’ Gilda Carr Tiny Mysteries series are set in an alternate Jazz Age New York in which the city is divided (literally and figuratively) by magic. Life is hard, gin is cheap, and motives are never clear. Gilda Carr intends to stay out of trouble, but the “tiny” mysteries she agrees to solve are ever only the tip of the political and magical iceberg.

Book Info:

In the fourth installment of the USA Today bestselling Heirs of Chicagoland series, Elisa Sullivan unearths an ancient grudge, with potentially devastating consequences.

As the only vampire ever born, not made, and the daughter of two very powerful Chicago vampires, Elisa Sullivan always knew her life was going to be…unusual. But she always wanted to make her own way in the world, likely away from her famous family.
Then supernatural politics—and perhaps a bit of destiny—intervened, and Elisa had to steady her nerves and sharpen her steel to fight for the city of Chicago. Luckily, Connor Keene, son of the North American Central Pack leader, is right by her side.

Elisa and some of the paranormal Ombudsmen she works with agree to escort a troubled sorcerer to Chicago for training, but they inadvertently set in motion a scheme of long-awaited magical vengeance. The city may pay an arcane price it can’t afford unless Elisa and her team rise to the challenge.

I have read the entire Chicagoland Vampire series. But only a few of the Heir series. Mainly because I’ve gotten busy in the last two years and my reading time had taken a hit sadly. But I’m getting more time of late and would love to catch up on my favorite authors and series.
