Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Kelly Elliott to HJ!
Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Kelly and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Divided Interests!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

Divided Interests is a story about two people who are brought back into each other’s lives when they both inherit the same house. Neither one of them is willing to give up their share of the house and soon find themselves living together in the old house. Soon they discover the house has many hidden secrets which could change one, or both, of their lives.
It is filled with sexy banter, laugh out loud moments, a cat that is maybe a bit too smart for his own good, and a touch of mystery. It is a second chance romance set in a small town in Texas.

Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:

“You of all people know you can’t change the past, Lucas. You can grow from it, heal from it, but nah, you can’t change it.”

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • There is a character in the book that is named after my own cat.
  • The plot changed almost as soon as I started writing it.
  • Paige’s degree is a shout out to my own daughter’s degree she is pursuing in college right now!

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

They were high school sweethearts that truly never got over one another. You can almost instantly feel the attraction still there the moment they are forced back together. I loved their love story, there was something just so different about it. They were both raw and honest, and man there were times I wanted to smack Lucas!

Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?

Oh yes….the bathroom scene! I’m not sure why that scene had me blushing like a fool, probably because I wrote it while on a plane! Here is part of it!

I tiptoed to the bathroom and was about to call out his name when I heard moaning. I froze. My heart instantly hammered in my chest.
“Oh God. Yeah, faster.”
I looked behind me and then around the room like an idiot. Had he brought a girl home and was having sex with her in the shower? How in the world had I missed a woman coming into my own house?
What an asshole! He was just coming on to me! Ugh! Men.
I turned to leave, then froze when I heard my name.
“Paige.”
My heart dropped. He had said it in such a desperate, wanting
manner. I swallowed hard and looked back into the bathroom. “That’s it, baby. Faster.”
After picking my jaw off the floor, I peeked farther into the
bathroom. Since the door was open, the mirror wasn’t fogged yet, and I had the perfect view of Lucas standing in the glass shower, one hand on the wall, the other jacking himself off.
“Fuck. Faster. Paige, I’m going to come, baby.”
My mind was telling me to turn and leave. This was wrong. I was invading Lucas’s privacy. But holy hell, he was calling out my name as he made himself come. In the shower. Drunk or not, it was hot, and my heart almost hammered out of my chest. My hands covered my mouth as I watched him fall over the edge. It was the hottest thing I’d ever seen, and I couldn’t tear my eyes from him.

Readers should read this book….

If you enjoy a small town, second chance romance with a bit of mystery added to it! This book is so different from the first two books, but in such a good different kind of way! I truly believe readers will quickly say this book is their favorite of the series.

Excerpt from Divided Interests:

Did I ruin your evening?”
She gave me a sexy smirk. “Yes. You did.”
My hand rubbed at the back of my neck. “I’m sorry.”
“So you said. Now, we need to figure out why William wanted us
in this house together. What did he want us to find?”
Paige sat down on the old chair with a frustrated sigh.
“I don’t think he was trying to play matchmaker. It was something else.” She went on, leaning back in the chair in deep thought. That’s when I saw it. A paper sticking out of the bottom of the chair, maybe?
“There’s something on the chair.”
With a scream, she leaped to her feet. Paige ran over and jumped into my arms. She scared me so bad with her sudden movements that I didn’t have time to laugh.
“Get it off me!” she yelled, shaking her hair and letting out small yelps.
“Paige! I didn’t mean a bug!” I said, trying not to double over with laughter, setting her down on her feet. “I meant there was something sticking out of the chair, like paper.”
She stopped jumping around. It was adorable as fuck to watch her toss her hands in the air and swipe at bugs that weren’t even there. The way her ponytail swung around inspired amazing dirty thoughts.
“Jesus, you nearly gave me a heart attack,” she said.
“Just so you know, that’s not how I want to gain your half of the house.”
She snarled at me then looked back over to the chair. I pulled the seat cushion up and gently tugged on the piece of paper sticking
out.
“What is it?” Paige asked, hitting me on the side of my arm. She
always had been impatient.
Giving her a look that told her to settle down, I carefully unfolded
it and read it out loud.
“M, will you do me the honor of having dinner with me? I have a very important question to ask you.
Yours truly, William”
Paige and I lifted our gaze from the paper to each other. We both smiled.
“What do you think he asked May? To marry him?” Paige asked.
“I don’t know. The date on the note doesn’t make much sense. I didn’t think they were engaged that long.”
I looked back down at the paper, then at the chair. “We need to take that seat off.”
“You’ll ruin the chair, Lucas.”
Without paying any attention to her, I leaned down and pulled at the chair bottom.
“Lucas!” she protested, but stopped when it popped off and revealed a little chest.
“Is that the chest?” she whispered.
I shook my head as I reached for it. “No, the chest we’re looking for has a lock. Remember, the key?”
“That’s right,” Paige said, reaching over and gently touching the chest. “What is this?”
“Maybe a jewelry box?” I said, slowly turning the latch and opening the box.
“It’s empty,” Paige said, disappointment laced in her voice.
With a wide grin, I lifted on the little tab sticking up on the inside of the box, and it revealed another folded-up paper.
“It’s another letter!” Paige screamed right into my ear.
Jerking, I glared at her. “Yes, and now I’ve lost all hearing in that ear, so thank you.”
She shot me a dirty look. “Open it, Lucas! See what it says before I do more damage to you!”
I handed the small box to Paige and unfolded the paper. It was old and brittle.
“My Dearest M, you have forever saved my broken soul. You were brought into my life when I thought all hope was lost. I give you this conservatory to do with as you wish. It is my wedding gift to you.
Yours truly, William”
One quick glance at Paige, and I couldn’t help but smile and shake my head. “The old man was a romantic.”
“Stop it! Keep reading.”
When I looked back at the paper, my smile faded, and a lump formed in my throat.
“What’s wrong?” Paige asked.
“The date is wrong.”
“What do you mean, the date is wrong?”

Verify that it really belongs to me and then figure what to do with it with the co-owner, depending on the house and all.

  2. Doroteja

I have no idea. I’d probably buy his share or sell him my share if there were no more feelings between us. And if I’d still love him, I’d try to gain him back. I think 🙂

  3. laurieg72

I’m a very committed person so if he was my ex something was really wrong with our relationship. I would not be able to exist in the same house with him. If I wanted the house I’d try to reason with him to sell it to me. If he wouldn’t sell I’d rent it out until he was willing to sell.

  4. Pammie R.

I don’t know. Probably try to work it out because I have always wanted a house of my own.

  5. Lilah Chavez

Omg the hubby would blow his gasket! LOL I would probably sell my half

  6. dbranigan

Well, that would not be possible for me. However, I would want to get out of the situation ASAP.

  7. Nicole (Nicky) Ortiz

Depends on how the break up went I would either sell or try to make it work!

    Thanks for the chance!

  8. Pamela Conway

I’d most likely want to sell it, I definitely wouldn’t want to live with an ex.

  9. Linda Herold

I don’t know but I know that I would want to steer clear of my ex!
