Today it is my pleasure to Welcome authors Piper& Rayne to HJ!
Hi Piper & Rayne and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Engaged to the EMT!
Please summarize the book for the readers here:
A Chicago paramedic talks his biggest enemy into being his fake fiancee for one week, not aware the snowball effect he started.
Please share the opening lines of this book:
“Guess what, Ma?”
My mom’s soft smile appears first, her unconditional love-filled eyes set on me.
“My baby?” She lightly smacks my cheek in a way to ask, ‘what am I doing here with Lauren?’ Even Mama knows I’m no saint and until last night I was far from having a girlfriend let alone a fiancée.
Please share a few Fun facts about this book…
- The mystery surrounding the arsonist from the first two books is resolved.
- Besides the brothers, readers will get to meet one of the Bianco’s New York cousins…which is important for a reason we explain in our ramblings at the end of the book.
- There’s a lot of getting caught and trying to get out of the deception.
Please tell us a little about the characters in your book. As you wrote your protagonist was there anything about them that surprised you?
Both the hero and the heroine were surprising. Luca, our hero, turned out to become much sweeter than we thought. He really did a one eighty from first to last page.
Our heroine, Lauren, displayed some self-confidence issues I don’t think either one of us would have thought from the first two books in the series, but as we always say, giving a secondary character her or his own book, the reader is able to see the layers that make them up.
Both of these characters sparked on the pages of the previous two books. But in their own books, you find out what they’re actually thinking and I think it will surprise some people. We love them both!
If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?
We would use a scene where Luca (our hero) is trying to convince Lauren (our heroine) to be his fake fiancee.
“Not a real marriage. Just an engagement.” He stands and heads back to the kitchen.
I peek at the rug and see that it looks good. Who knew Luca knew how to clean carpet?
“You say it so flippantly.” I prop my feet up on the coffee table, my vision landing on the soccer game but my mind can’t follow the ball when it’s still reeling from Luca’s request. “You’re insane.”
“Just hear me out.” He sits down next to me, even closer this time. His hands are shaky and reach out to me, but retract immediately. “It’s only until Ma’s healthy. We announce it tomorrow at our family dinner. The wedding never happens, obviously.”
“Obviously.” I sneer. “Luca, you can’t be serious?”
He slides closer, his hands going for mine but again, thinks better of it and keeps them in his own lap. “I am. I know it’s a lot to ask, so I’m fully prepared to give you something in return.”
“Oh, how nice of you. Let me guess, nightly orgasms in our bed of lies?”
He chuckles, his chin falling to his chest. “Well, I wouldn’t deny it if that’s your wish. I have a feeling you would give me a…” He stops and shakes his head. “What do you want?”
What do you want people to take away from reading this book?
Sometimes the way a person presents themselves to the world doesn’t reflect what’s inside.
What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?
We are working on two things. For Piper Rayne, we’re working on a brand new world, Lessons of a One-Night Stand which kicks off a nine book series about siblings who live in Alaska. For Elisabeth Grace and Michelle Lynn, we’re working on a duet, All We Were and All We Are which is more angsty than our Piper Rayne books.
Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from Engaged to the EMT:
A scene between the three brothers…
Twenty minutes later I open the door to my brother’s apartment, finding him and Mauro already lounging on the couch watching the Sunday night football game.
“Oh look, the groom-to-be has arrived.” Cris stands, rounds the couch and pulls me into a hug.
“Get off me.” I try to break out of his hold.
If the guy didn’t have my arms pinned down, and if I was in the mood to wrestle, I’d be able to get him off me.
“I just wanted to congratulate you again. I mean marrying your archenemy is kind of a big deal.” He finally lets me go.
“Come on. What game are we playing?” Mauro snags a beer from the twelve pack and cracks it open, tossing the cap on the counter. And they complain about me being a slob.
“No game.” I pull two beers out, handing one to Cris.
They both stare at me like I’m crazy.
“You do understand that when it all blows up, it’s gonna be a shit show.” Cris’s hand smacks me on the back of the head and he walks back over to the couch.
“Nothing’s gonna blow up. I’m engaged. It doesn’t mean we’re getting married in a week. I don’t move like rocket man over there.” I point the neck of my beer to Mauro who flips me off.
“Let’s make a bet that there’s never a wedding?” Mauro sits up, resting his forearms on his thighs.
“You’ll lose,” I say, wishing it were true just to show him up.
Cris side glances at me. “Will he?”
I take three hefty gulps of my beer, my eyes focused on the screen, but at this point, I have to act casual. They’ll eat me up like a bunch of piranhas if I show any weakness.
“Fine, wager up?” I put my beer on the coffee table and rub my hands together.
I learned early that outward appearance is ninety percent of pulling something off.
Cris moves forward and puts a coaster down under my beer. I roll my eyes. Neat freak.
“Ante up your Hawks tickets.” Mauro grins.
Fuck, how do I say those are taken already?
“When do you think this is all going to blow up? In a week?” I scoff.
“First off, the season goes to May and I have faith that this will self-implode after Ma gets better.”
Cris holds up his hand for Mauro and they high five.
Clearly, there’s been a lot of talk before I arrived.
“You think I’m doing this because of Ma’s surgery?” See how I just throw out the truth like they’re morons for thinking it. If I deny it too hard, they’ll know.
“Yes,” they both deadpan simultaneously.
My phone buzzes in my pocket.
Hunt: Are you getting the third degree?
“Is that the Mrs.?” Cris asks. “Get used to it, baby brother. She’ll want to know your whereabouts twenty-four seven now. Probably has that app on your phone that’s like a GPS.”
Me: Yeah. They’re on to us. You, too?
Hunt: I think the four of them had a pow wow.
Me: Say nothing.
Hunt: …

Book Info:
Luca Bianco is a jerk. There I said it.
He thinks he’s so suave and sexy, walking around in his paramedic uniform stretched out by all his hard muscles and saving lives every day. I swear he thinks every woman in the world would kill for a chance to be with him.
Men like Luca are good for one thing only—a one-night stand—not commitment. I don’t care if my friend did pay good money at a charity bachelor auction for me to go on a date with him, I refuse to do it.
That is until Luca offers me a deal I can’t refuse, and I agree to be his pretend fiancé.
The heat that’s simmered between us for a decade ignites and I’m not sure even Luca will be able to kickstart my heart after I call code blue.
What’s that saying? Love is blind?
Not true. I can see this head-on collision coming a mile away.

Lynne Brigman
No I would not partake in anything like that.
Thank you for the chance ❤
Sonia
I would not because I think that anything that starts with a lie will never end well:)
Mary Preston
It might actually be fun. Yes, I’d give it a go with the right person.
Barbara Bates
No, can’t keep a secret like that.
Joy Tetterton Avery
It would really depend on the situation.
Debra Guyette
Depending on the circumstances, I could do that.
lraines78
It would depend on the situation.
janinecatmom
I would do it. Why not?
laurieg72
I’m really an honest and trustworthy person. I would have to know the reason for the deception and how long it would last. For a good cause like a relative dying or to get an ex to back off I would definitely do it..
Amy R
Would you ever agree to be in a fake relationship? Yes, if it was for a friend
Colleen C.
Maybe… would depend on everything.
nancy j burgess
No I would never enter into a fake relationship.
Artemis Giote
It would depend on the situation.
Daniel M
depends on the situation
Sue C
Yes
Caro
Sure, but he’d have to be a super close friend and it would be for a short time. I wouldn’t want family and friends to expect too much.
Mary C
It would depend on the circumstances.
Lea Jerančič
Probably not
Teresa Williams
When I was younger and it would depend on the situation then.
Karina Angeles
If he’s hot-then yes. It could lead to more.
Marsha Bachmeier
It would depend on the situation. I’m not a good liar, so I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to pull it off, but it could be fun trying. Though the guilt from knowing I was lying to everyone would probably eat me away.
bn100
depends
Tammy Y
Yes I would
BookLady
No fake relationships for me, but I do enjoy reading about them
Nicole (Nicky) Ortiz
Depending on the person and the situation. I probably would.
Thanks for the chance!
eawells
It would depend on the person and if I was single. Not sure I could pull it off though.
rkcjmomma
Yes I would to help someone out
Natalija
I wouldn’t agree to be in a fake relationship. For that reason I don’t read many books with this trope because it all starts with deception and I just don’t like it.
Irma
Depends, but probably not.
Anita H.
Most likely not but it would totally depend on the situation, who is involved and why the need for a fake relationship
Nina T
Maybe, can’t say for sure. It’d be probably too hard to keep it a secret 🙂
Patricia B.
I don’t think so. For one thing, I am a bad actress. For another it wouldn’t be fair to everyone to deceive everyone.
Could have done so when I was 24. My more had cancer and would pass away in just a few weeks. I was the oldest of 6 and least likely or interested in marriage.I know she wanted to see me happily married. I had just returned from working overseas and had re-met a good friend from high school. She saw us together and likely assumed we were a couple. I didn’t fake the relationship, it just wouldn’t have been right. We did get engaged a couple of months after she died, but the relationship wasn’t to that point earlier.
Terrill R.
I probably would. Especially if I knew the other person well enough to have fun with it.
