Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Jillian and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Give Me Butterflies!

Hi Romance Readers!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

Give Me Butterflies is a workplace romance that takes place in a museum! Millie is up for a promotion to become the director of the entomology department, but after a string of unfortunate run-ins with her grumpy coworker, Finn, she discovers that he is on her interview panel.

As Millie gets to know Finn a little better, she begins to understand him in a new way, and they both start falling faster than they ever intended. But with her job on the line, she’s fighting her feelings every step of the way.

Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:

“Strength isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s a quiet power that isn’t so obvious to the world.”

“I don’t need the sun when you’re here, stella mia.”

“I want to meet your people so they can be my people too.”

“I’m not here to stifle you or control you or shape you into something else. I’m here to help you shine.”

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • Almond croissants became a major part of the book, despite the fact that I had never had one! So when I finished my first draft, I went out and got my first almond croissant!
  • Some songs that are Give Me Butterflies-coded: Daylight by Taylor Swift, Butterflies by Kacey Musgraves, and Stargazing by Myles Smith
  • Finn’s nieces (Avery and Eloise) were inspired by my two youngest daughters, and their personalities and interests (and even a few conversations) were gathered right from real life!

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

Finn definitely starts falling for Millie once she comes to his house and brings a brightness that he’s been missing. He loves seeing her with his nieces and enjoys her friendship before he develops further feelings for her.

Millie is healing from a bad relationship, so Finn’s ability to show her that he likes her just the way she is really shifts something in her. Instead of trying to change herself for a man, she realizes he cares for exactly the way she is. The fact that Finn wants to communicate with her and be open in a way she’s never experienced drastically changes her opinion of him.

Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?

I’ve definitely done all three while I writing this book, but I’ll focus on a blushing example. On a trip to visit Millie’s family, she brings Finn— with is an astronomer— to an overlook spot on her parents’ property for some stargazing.

His eyes narrow. “This is a make-out spot?”

I shove his shoulders and use all my strength to roll us over until I straddle his waist. The blanket scratches against my palms as I plant them beside his head. “Yes. I brought you here to show you the stars and kiss you until you forget about them.”

Readers should read this book….

If they like nerdy characters, open-door spicy scenes, teasing and banter, adorable twin girls, cooking and baking together, main characters who communicate with each other, funny group texts and emails, found family, and sweet domestic moments.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?

I am currently working on the rest of the Oaks Sisters series! Millie has two sisters, Fable and Tessa, and I’m working on different stages of both of their stories. Neither of those books have titles or release dates yet, but I’m excited to reveal more about them soon!

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Book Info:

A swoony, steamy, STEM romance in which two curators at a science museum—a handsome but grumpy astronomer and an anxious but sunshine-y entomologist—realize they are the perfect match. Equal parts nerdy banter and fiery tension, it’s perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood and Tessa Bailey. Now with exclusive bonus content!

Millie was never one to take the expected path. She’s an entomologist who loves her job as a natural science curator, inspiring museum visitors every day. It’s her dream to take a larger role in the planning of her department, so when a director position opens, she is determined not to let anything distract her from her goals. Especially Finn, her grumpy coworker with his permanent scowl, electric blue eyes, and nerdy astronomy ties.

. . . Not that she’s spent much time noticing any of those things.

Finn doesn’t mean to glare at everyone, but he’s juggling his role at the museum, navigating the grief of losing his sister, attempting to make his nieces smile, and trying not to ruin dinner for the fifth night in a row. He can’t afford to let anything slip, and certainly doesn’t need anything more to deal with—especially not Millie literally stumbling into him, with her bright smile and sunny optimism.

He bugs her. She’s too starry-eyed for him. They want nothing to do with each other. But with Finn on the interview committee, avoidance is impossible. And Millie soon realizes it’s one thing when a job is on the line. It’s quite another when it’s her heart.

My favorite bakery treat is a brownie! I love both the cake and fudge kind, you can’t go wrong with chocolate.
