Today it is my pleasure to Welcome romance author Cynthia Breeding to HJ!
Hi Cynthia and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Highland Hero!
I’m so glad you’re here!
Please summarize the book a la Twitter style for the readers here:
When her life is in danger, she must trust the man who annoys her to no end.
Please share the opening lines of this book:
While Juliana was happy for her sister, who was getting married in a few hours, her own life was going to change forever. But for now, before the event and the raucous Scottish Ceilidh began, she wanted a bit of solitude.
She was just about to settle on the grassy bank of a burn when she heard splashing and, a moment later, a man rounded a set of boulders near the water.
A naked man.
Please share a few Fun facts about this book…
- The hero and heroine argue over everything.
- Both believe they are inherently right and the other obviously obtuse.
- They have to continue the farce that they are handfasted in order to escape the Cameron’s.
- Once freed, Mother Nature decides she’s not through and creates a blizzard keeping them together for survival.
- Then, biology takes over. Even though they annoy each other to know end, physical attraction no longer can be denied much as they both try
What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?
They are opposites who deny physical attraction but when Rory reluctantly rescues Juliana and she doesn’t complain about the harsh winter elements, they begin to get past their argumentative style.
Using just 5 words, how would you describe Hero and Heroine’s love affair?
Simmering tempest in a teapot.
The First Kiss…
A faked one to prove they are truly handfasted.
Without revealing too much, what is your favorite scene in the book?
After “convincing” the Cameron’s that they are truly betrothed—and Neal Cameron cannot keep her as a stolen to-be bride—they are allowed to leave. Rory wants to get her back to her family as soon as possible since he did what he was ordered to do —rescue her—and this follows:
They had just cleared the gate when a shout came behind them. Several shouts, in fact.
“You might want to go faster,” Juliana said, mounted behind him.
The hair at his nape rose. “Why?”
“I might have told Neal’s sister I was never going to marry.”
If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would be absolutely crucial to include?
The one where Rory arrives to rescue her and Juliana realizes she must play along.
Rory breathed a sigh of relief. “‘It’s settled then. We will leave immediately”
“Nae quite so fast,” Neal said. “If ye are truly handfasted, I want to see a real kiss between ye.”
Readers should read this book …
It’s a battle of the wills much like Taming of the Shrew except each is trying to train the other.
What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?
The third book in series, Highland Champion

Excerpt from Highland Hero:
“Ye expect me to do what?” Rory looked at Ian over a pewter mug of dreaming, black coffee as they sat in the morning room where he and his brothers normally broke their fast. The inside of his head was pounding as though a whole contagion of fife-and-drum were marching through it with perhaps a piper thrown in for good measure. The result of mixing too much whisky and ale at Ian’s wedding the night before.
His brother frowned at him. “I want yes to ride after the Cameron’s. My new wife is most upset that Neal has abducted her sister, Juliana”
Rory rubbed his throbbing temples. “How do ye ken? Probably some man caught her eye last eve and she succumbed—“
“Juliana.? Succumbed.” Her other sister asked incredulously.
It sounded absurd even as he said it. Juliana Caldwell could put a fish-wife to Shane with her temper and vitreous tongue. A man would be a fool to attempt to lure that one to bed for fear he might wake up a eunuch.
