Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Christi Barth and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Imperfect Angel!

Hi everyone – I’m beyond thrilled you’re here for my leap into paranormal romance – I can’t wait to hear what you think!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

Maisy thought she had a lot going on post-college: struggling to pay the bills while juggling two dead-end jobs. But once she discovers that demons are real and she’s maybe responsible for the imminent end of the world? Things get harder….as hard as the abs on the sexy half-angel who keeps interfering…

Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:

Rhys drew on his years of angelic training, and still barely managed to give the women a reassuring nod. “I’ll be on guard. Nothing will get past me. If there’s anything out of the ordinary, I’ll hear it.”
“You’re out of the ordinary,” Maisy muttered as she left the room.
Well, she wasn’t wrong.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • Okay, it isn’t as marketable, I’m sure, but I loved my working title for this book; Unlocking His Heart. Because that’s exactly what Maisy does to this 87 year old half-angel.
  • I did lots of research for this book – all but one of the demons are ‘real’ (at least, real in lore/mythology. Geez, people across the centuries and continents have bloodthirsty imaginations!). Then I stockpiled all the excess terrifying demons I learned about to use in the rest of the series, lol (stay tuned!). The most fun/breathtakingly beautiful thing I researched were waterfalls all over the world…. for #reasons that you’ll have to read to know. Ooh, and I did discover how to summon a demon. That was…disturbing….I feel like I should take a Sharpie and violently black it out in my notebook.

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

Well, the first eyeful they get of each other goes very well. Mutual attraction. And then Rhys opens his mouth, tries to tell her Hell’s real and demons exist and she slams the door in his face. Rhys is dismissive of the untrained, annoyingly perky woman. He doesn’t believe she’s got the guts or the strength to become Keeper of the Key, and he’s beyond annoyed that’s he’s got to keep her safe. But then…she pushes back at him. At everything. She’ll try to save the world, but her way. And the fact that she’s scared to death but not backing down? That intrigues the hell out of him.

Maisy’s captivated by Rhys’s sinfully soft wings. But not by his powers. No, her attraction is completely to the few times he gives in and reveals that he’s got a very human heart. That he’s kind, and cares about all the people he protects who don’t even know he exists and risks his life to keep safe.

Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?

Once Rhys (the half-angel) fills in Maisy (the totally normal human) on just how real demons and angels are….and that she alone has to stop the release of truly awful demons in only two weeks? Maisy ends up in her room late at night. Crying. Not out of fear of demons, but out of the fear that she’s not worthy or capable of saving the world. The weight of the responsibility almost breaks her. So often PNR stories just give someone powers and they start doing all the things. Maisy’s still just a human thrust into all this. I felt so much sympathy for her gut-wrenching fear! (Just not enough to go easy on her, lol.)

“I’m certainly not wholly good as a person. I cheated on my calculus final in eleventh grade.” She wrapped the sheet around her fists. Looked down at them. “I ghosted a guy last year who had a horribly small penis.”
“Sounds justifiable.” There were enough men in the world that she shouldn’t have to settle.
Her head snapped up. “Don’t you see? I’m not worthy. I don’t want to let the world down. I don’t want people to suffer, to die horrible deaths, because I wasn’t good enough or strong enough to prevent it.”
His leg thudded back to the floor.
Rhys had traveled the world, encountered every imaginable evil, many times over. He’d seen good people, so-so, and toxic sucking horror shows of people. After all these decades, nobody surprised him. Not anymore. Everyone fit neatly into a category.
Until tonight.
Maisy stunned him.
She didn’t feel worthy? That’s what had her crying her eyes out?
So many of the humans he’d encountered were too selfish or prideful to ever worry about being worthy if this had fallen in their laps. Maisy just might be different after all.
No training. No innate skills or strength that would mark her as Keeper. But she had a tremendous heart.
She wasn’t worried for herself. No, it was all concern for others. That wasn’t the mark of simply a good person.
It made her extraordinary.

Readers should read this book….

because it isn’t dark and angsty, but still provides lots of paranormal twists and turns, along with a whole lot of heat and heart. Funny, fun, and freaking hot! Oh, and if you like my contemporary romances, this’ll be just like them – but with half-angels and demons!

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?

I just finished writing the next book in this Nephilim series. Obviously it is top secret, but I can tell you that it will be Gideon’s story! Right now, I’m currently working on book three in my new contemporary rom-com series, set in a small Coastal Maine town. The next release will be book two of that, but the title isn’t quite locked down yet. I promise to shout from the rooftops as soon as it is!
