Today, HJ is pleased to share with you Jen Talty’s new release: LEGACY OF LIES
What if the mother you thought had died, was alive and well and living fifty miles away?
Katie Bateman’s mother died years ago, or so she thought. That all changed the day a stranger came into her office asking her to find his missing wife, who looks an awful lot like her late mother.
Katie, a little spooked by the resemblance, goes to her FBI friend, Jacob Donovan, whose father had been close friends with her mother and her uncle. Jacob chalks it up to someone who just looks like her mother. How could it be anyway? She was dead. Besides, Jacob is pre-occupied with a case where young girls are going missing and now turning up dead.
Katie starts to uncover some inconsistencies in her new clients missing wife’s case. As she digs deeper, she finds a picture of Edward’s wife and it’s the exact same picture, the only picture, that Katie has of her late mother.
The closer Katie gets to finding Edward’s wife, her mother, the closer she comes to the final game. Edwards game.

“I’m not looking for a lead. I’m just looking to prove it’s him. Right now, I’m focusing on cold cases that might have been overlooked in years past. Most of these are cases our team has never seen. If we can make a real connection, we can go on an all-out manhunt.”
“There are more than twenty-seven years between one of these cases and the Williams girl.”
“We could easily have one of the biggest monsters of the century.” Jacob let out a long breath. Not to mention, the biggest case of his career. Although, he couldn’t help but think about what it would be like to prosecute a bastard like this.
“Okay,” Cameron said. “The three found at the river’s edge don’t match the current profile of The Doe Hunter.”
Jacob turned his chair until he found each of those cases and picked them off the floor. “Why don’t you think they match?”
“The Doe Hunter only uses weapons associated with big game hunting. And not just any hunting—sport hunting. Those girls were shot with small-caliber handguns.”
“All right, but we have to look at how he may have perfected his crime over the course of many years. These could have been his first kills.” Jacob continued looking at the pictures on the floor.
“Yes, but if the hunt is part of this man’s psyche, he wouldn’t have used a handgun, even early in his career. A large knife or even a shotgun meant more for small game perhaps, but not a handgun.” Cameron took a step to the right and pointed at the desk. “One thing I noticed was that the girls who have been successfully linked to The Doe Hunterwere all under the age of twenty-three.”
“All right.” Jacob reached down and plucked two from the floor. “What are you thinking?”
“I’m not sure yet,” Cameron said. “What about their victimology? Do we have those reports?”
“I’ve asked. Everything any law enforcement agency had that referenced these particular cases is right here in this room.”
“For most of them, the family stated that they had wild aspirations of being a star or were chasing some dream. Where is the case file on Veronica Hemming?”
“Um…it’s around here somewhere.” Jacob pushed around a few of the case files until he found it. “She was ruled out because her cause of death was dehydration, though she had been stabbed with a hunting knife.”
“The thing is, her body wasn’t staged like all the other victims. But she was found in the middle of the Dix Range, naked, and it appeared she was trying to hide in the bushes. She wasn’t dead when they found her, but she died just hours after she got to the hospital. What if she was his first victim? Or one of his firsts?” Cameron said. “I don’t think there is any case even close to The Doe Hunter before that one.”
“You really do have a photographic memory, don’t you?”

It is frightening that there really are people like the Doe Hunter out there. This sounds like a close description of how a case for one of these predators is profiled, pursued, and hopefully caught. It sounds like an intriguing story that I will enjoy.
