Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Katee and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Make Me Yours!

Thank you so much for having me!

To start off, can you please tell us a little bit about this book?:

This is the third book in the Make Me series. It’s about a one night stand at a wedding that ends up being a little more than either hero or heroine bargained for. The heroine ends up pregnant, and sexy shenanigans ensue as she and the hero have to come to terms with being linked together forever.

Please share your favorite lines or quote(s) from this book:

“Maid of honor.”
God, even his voice was wonderful, low and even with just a hint of growl. She twisted to face him. “Wedding guest.” He just raised his eyebrows, and she smirked. “Sorry, I thought we were throwing out labels.” She held out her hand. “Becka Baudin.”

What inspired this book?

I have a deep and abiding weakness for “oops baby” books, and so most of my series end up with that plotline. This one is special in particular because the hero is a straight up cinnamon roll who just wants to take care of the heroine, who’s having none of it.

How did you ‘get to know’ your main characters? Did they ever surprise you?

Both characters show up in previous books in the series, so I had a good idea about their personalities going into this book. That said, Aaron surprised me with how genuinely adorable he is.

What was your favorite scene to write?

It’s the moment when the hero tries to micromanage the heroine’s bath temperature. It’s such a great scene because it really demonstrates how out of their comfort zone both characters are.

“Becka! Open the door!”
Cursing sounded, and a second later, she yanked the door open, a towel clutched at her chest. Her hair was wet, but from the half-filled tub behind her, she’d only gotten through the shower portion of her nightly routine. She glared. “What the hell do you need right this second?”
He held up the book and pointed to the section he’d just read. “No more hot baths.”
Becka’s brows slammed down. “My baths are fine.”
“Yes, yes, the baths are fine. I’m talking about the scalding temperatures.” He shoved the book at her and headed into the kitchen to find the thermometer Trish had insisted he needed the last time she visited New York. It was technically for meat, but it should work in a pinch. He strode back into the bathroom, finding Becka exactly where he’d left her, reading with a pinched look on her face. Aaron slid past her and stuck the thermometer into the bathwater, impatiently watching the red line climb. It hovered just over one hundred degrees, so he cranked the cold water more fully on. “It’s bad for the baby—and you—if it’s too hot.”
“Aaron.”
He waited for the thermometer to read the appropriate temperature before he sat back on his heels and turned to find Becka watching him with a strange look on her face. “What’s wrong?”
“You bought a pregnancy book.” She looked at him like she’d never seen him before. “You’re reading a pregnancy book.”
“Well, yeah.” He stood and dried off his hand on his shirt. “I said you aren’t in this alone, and I meant it. I don’t know shit about pregnancy or babies, and until we know our plan, I’m hardly going to call up my mother and ask her for information. Books are the next best thing.”

What was the most difficult scene to write?

It was the scene where Aaron tells Becka she needs to move in with him. It was kind of a hard balance because these two people don’t really know each other, and I needed to keep him from being a total unforgivable ass.

“There’s nothing wrong with my apartment.”
“The list of everything wrong with this place is longer than we have time for. Pack your bags. We’re leaving.”
Her jaw dropped. “You’re crazy.”
“No, you’re crazy if you think I’m going to let the mother of my future child live in these conditions when I have a perfectly adequate apartment that will fit both of us and the baby without crowding.” He crossed his arms over his chest and frowned. “I have a spare room, if that’s what you’re worried about. I don’t expect you to be in my bed.”
The top of her head damn near exploded. “No.”
“Wrong answer.”
She sputtered. “You can’t just decide to move me in with you. That’s not how any of this works.”
Aaron stalked to the fridge and opened it. He barked out a laugh. “I suspected as much. There isn’t even fucking food in your fridge.” He turned and glared. “Let me lay it out for you—you have two options.”
“I choose the option where you get the hell out of my life.”
“That’s not on the list.” If anything, her anger only made him calmer, icier. He nodded at the door leading into her bedroom. “You can walk in there, pack your shit and come with me to my place. You’ll settle in. It will take some adjusting, but it’s doable.” He shrugged. “Or I can call your sister and brother-in-law—and Roman and Allie, since they have a vested interest in your well-being—and we can all have a sit-down about your current living conditions and how you’re rejecting a perfectly reasonable plan out of hand.”
Checkmate.

Would you say this book showcases your writing style or is it a departure for you?

This is pretty on brand for me. It’s cracky good times, lots of banter, and the sex is particularly hot. I was very much in my happy place while writing it.

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

The pure enjoyment of time well-spent in a fictional world.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

I’m currently working on the third Island of Ys book, which is a series that’s part Fantasy Island, part revenge scheme, and all sexy good times. My next release is a dark erotic romance, Desperate Measures, which is the first in my Wicked Villains series. It’s my reimagining of what would happen if Jafar and Jasmine got together in a contemporary setting–and Jafar was super kinky.

Excerpt from Make Me Yours:

Becka wouldn’t for him. She had little but her pride left at this point and, honestly, she didn’t have much of that, either. Whether he realized it or not, Aaron threatened to hold all the cards in every single one of their interactions. She couldn’t give him even more power by following her very clear invitation up with anything other than waiting.
She’d made her move.
The ball was in his court.
Thank the Lord above, he didn’t make her wait long.
He walked to the bath and shut off the water and then he was there, engulfing her with his presence, wrapping his arms around her until her entire world narrowed down to him. As if he meant to shield her from anything life threw at her.
Stop that. He didn’t make anything resembling a promise when it comes to me. I can’t afford to get mixed up over him wanting to take care of the baby and him wanting me.
That didn’t keep her from leaning into his strong chest and inhaling deeply. His faint cologne made her toes curl, and she wanted to get beneath his shirt to see if it smelled different on his skin. Things had happened so quickly the first—the only—time, she hadn’t had a chance to explore him.
She wanted that chance now.
Becka reached for the hem of his shirt and tugged it up and over his head slowly. She silently marveled at the cut of his muscles. They were even more pronounced now than they had been three months ago. “Someone’s been spending time in the gym.”
“I had a lot of frustration to work out.” He rested his hands on her hips, letting her explore his chest and stomach. She was so busy tracing the line of his pecs that she almost missed his next words. “I still do.”
No way to misconstrue that statement.
He’s talking about me.
“Oh.” Good job, Becka. Excellent witty response. To cover up her confusion, she went onto her tiptoes and kissed him. The move pressed her breasts against his chest, and she moaned at how good it felt. Everything was more sensitive than normal, as if someone had hooked a live wire up to her and it covered every inch of her skin. “Touch me.”
He grabbed the backs of her thighs and lifted so she could wrap her legs around his waist. Aaron turned around and walked them to the bathroom counter and set her carefully on the marble. He ran a hand down the center of her chest, guiding her back to prop herself onto her hands and let him look at her. Though look was too mild a term. The man devoured her with his eyes, staring at her like she was an oasis in the middle of a desert and he wasn’t sure if she was real or a figment of his imagination. He was so damn buttoned up the rest of the time, but when he got his hands on her, a different part of Aaron came out to play. It made Becka feel just as wild and out of control to know that she was the cause of that switch being flipped.
She shoved down his pants just enough to free his cock. Becka stroked him, every muscle in her body shaking in anticipation. A person shouldn’t be able to be addicted to a cock after a single sexual encounter, but the sight of Aaron looming with his hands braced on the counter on either side of her hips and his cock in her hand…she couldn’t think of another place she’d rather be or another person she’d rather be with.
All she wanted was this moment.
This man.

Meet the Author:

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Katee Robert learned to tell her stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her 2015 title, The Marriage Contract, was a RITA finalist, and RT Book Reviews named it ‘a compulsively readable book with just the right amount of suspense and tension.” When not writing sexy contemporary and romantic suspense, she spends her time playing imaginary games with her children, driving her husband batty with what-if questions, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

  1. Mary Preston

I have a lot of favorites. Marriage of convenience especially.

  2. Diana Tidlund

Friends to lovers. Especially best friends. I fell for my bestie 27 years ago after he watched my kids for me to start dating after a nasty divorce, I realized on my third date that I wanted the man home watching my kids. Got home and told him started dating the next day

  3. clickclickmycat

I love a lot of different plot lines. As long as it is romantic.

  4. Jennifer Shiflett

I’m not really sure how to answer this question. The plot has to be believable and I have to feel a kinship with the characters for a book to really draw my interest.

    Hope I answered correctly.

  5. laurieg72

I like a marriage of convenience plot line. a man & woman meet for whatever reason, marry struggle to work and live together, over time attraction and liking develop, chemistry strikes, fall in love and find their HEA.

  6. Heidi

I have quite a few, but I’m partial to May-December, enemies-to-lovers/bully, reverse harem, and a good modern-day Cinderella.

  7. John Smith

“What’s your traditional plot line in a romance?” ?? In real life or in literature or in writing a book, I dunno, be a Duke??

  8. Kathleen Bylsma

I like the accidental baby because it can cover ALL the tropes….

  9. Jennifer Beyer

I like strong women and strong men that are equals but need each other. I have also read quite a few great second chance love stories.

  10. Natalija

Plot line as in trope? I prefer marriage in trouble, second chance and May/december.

  11. Marcy Meyer

Girl meets boy. Girl falls in love with boy. Boy breaks her heart. Boy realizes how stupid he was. Boy wins girl back.

  12. Marisela Zuniga

I love it when couples first start as enemies and reading how the relationship changes

  13. flchen1

I’m not sure I have one favorite traditional plot line, as long as it ends up with an HEA/HFN… Like Katee mentioned, I definitely love good times and banter–those really take a book up a level! Otherwise, bring ’em on–babies, no babies, I’ll read them all!

  14. Pamela Conway

I don’t have a favorite but I have to like the characters & story line. I don’t like dark romances, cheating & whining characters but pretty much like everything else.

  15. erinf1

honestly don’t have one. I like enemies and friends to lovers b/c of the zing but I’ll read about anything 🙂 thanks for sharing!

  16. Didi

I don’t have any particulars and pretty game for any tropes of romance.

  17. Kim

I have several favorites, but I enjoy opposites attract, friends to lovers & enemies to lovers.

  18. Rosie

I love it when two people for some reason don’t like each other, then they fall in love!

  19. Laurajj

I really do love them all, but I think my favorite is second chances!
