Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Debbie and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, My Forever Home!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

Love comes to the rescue

Vet school drop-out Tess Grasso dreams of having her own pet therapy business, but she meets one disastrous obstacle after another. There’s no denying she has a way with animals, so in the meantime she puts her skills to use at a local no-kill shelter. Between helping her furry companions and a budding relationship with fellow dog lover Mason Redding, Tess begins to find fresh confidence…

What Tess doesn’t know is that Mason is recovering from an accident, hoping to get back to his pro-baseball career. He’s afraid the truth will ruin everything-and he’s right. But in the midst of hurt and betrayal, a free-spirited stray Husky enters their lives, and teaches them a few things about faith, love and forgiveness.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • Tess Grasso, heroine in My Forever Home, is from a lively Italian-American family and grew up on “The Hill,” a real life St. Louis neighborhood. The Hill is just as fun a place to visit as it is made out to be in the book. It’s one single square mile in size and the fire hydrants in its boundaries are painted the colors of the Italian flag. It’s also famous for its great Italian restaurants. At night, dining is more formal, but during the day, there are several competing sandwich shops like the fictional one Tess’s extended family owns. The Hill is a tried and true lunch spot for my family, though we each have our own favorite deli and advocate for it fiercely. If you find yourself in St. Louis, I highly recommend a visit to The Hill. Just remember to bring your appetite!
  • Mason Redding, the hero in My Forever Home, is a professional major league baseball player, playing for the St. Louis Redbirds. St. Louis is truly a baseball town and becomes a sea of red around the stadium before home games. To help keep the story grounded in fiction, I used the nickname for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Redbirds. I’ve already had several emails from readers asking which St. Louis Cardinal I pictured to be Mason. Perhaps disappointingly, the answer is none of them, though I do have my favorite players, and Yadier Molina always tops the list. I have a clear image of Mason in my head and if I had to pinpoint a celebrity, I’d say he most closely resembles a young, playful Bradley Cooper; however, I LOVE to hear who readers envision, too.
  • After a moving encounter and a failed attempt to catch a stray Husky roaming the streets of downtown St. Louis, Mason nicknames the dog John Ronald. This comes from a poem in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, which includes the line “Not all those who wander are lost,” and is something that has long resonated with me. The name sticks with Mason, as does his desire to catch the wily stray. He’s almost at his wits end as to how to do so when dog-loving Tess steps in and offers to help. With Tess and Mason working together, there’s little question John Ronald will find his forever home.
I used this line in the book because not only did I feel it resonated with John Ronald’s journey, but also because it’s become one of my favorite quotes. I’m a lover of motivational quotes and have several that resonate with me. Do you have a favorite motivational quote? If so, I’d love to hear it.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!
