Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author April Asher to HJ!
Hi April and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Not the Witch You Wed!
Hi there!
Please summarize the book for the readers here:
Not the Witch You Wed is a trope-tastic rom-com that showcases what happens when supernaturals are no longer hiding in the shadows, and are part of every day life. Violet, a magic-less witch from a prominent witchy family, who as the oldest of triplets, SHOULD be the most powerful is nothing more than a ‘dud’. And then there’s Lincoln, an alpha wolf shifter—and THE Alpha of the North American Pack—who has a cinnamon roll center and wants nothing more than to elicit change within the pack system. There’s a lot of history between the two of them, and when they’re pressed by their elder councils to form mate-bonds, they reluctantly agree to fake-date their way to a fake-mating. Old feelings—and the emergence of Vi’s magic—create a whole lot of sparks in the process.
Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:
My favorite line from the book is spoken by Grandma Edie, the Prima Witch (Witch Leader), to Violet. It’s “Let your Magic guide you…” Vi grew up magicless her entire life, and so learning to trust her inner power is difficult for her to do.
Please share a few Fun facts about this book…
- The very 1st working title of the book was Not Your Granny’s Grimoire
- When selling the idea of the series to my darling agent, I called it Paranormal Sex In the City meets True Blood…but with all supernatural creatures, less blood, and more snark.”
- I made the Maxwell sisters triplets solely because I wanted one of them to make a joke in the book about them being ‘womb-mates’.
- I didn’t realize I named the sisters all colors until my very observant hubby pointed it out to me. (Way to go, babe!)
What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?
Vi & Linc have always felt pulled together in some form, but as kids, it was in a heated rivalry that dated back to coveting the same crayon in kindergarten. It was always known that Linc would eventually become the Alpha of the North American Pack, and because of that, people often gave him leniencies that they shouldn’t have. But not Violet. If anything, she went out her way to be a thorn in his backside, making sure he knew he wasn’t better than everyone else just because of a role that would be handed down to him by his father.
For Vi, it was the fact that Linc never cared that she was a witch without magic. As their relationship grew, he didn’t try to ‘save’ her, firmly believing her capable of saving herself. He helped her become the hero of her own story.
Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?
Chuckle-Worthy Scene
One of my favorite scenes that made me chuckle was one of the first with Grandma Edie & Violet. They’re at an engagement party, and Violet is trying her best to find an escape.
Readers should read this book….
Because it’s not your average paranormal…or rom-com. I purposefully created a world that anyone would enjoy (both paranormal fans and contemporary rom-com readers). The characters of Not the Witch You Wed all have every day issues…it’s just that they have a few magical quirks on top of it.
What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?
Edit’s for Rose & Damian story!!! I can’t wait to bring everyone more Maxwell sisters!!!
Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from Not the Witch You Wed:
Glancing around the ballroom, Vi cased the exits. She counted three, maybe four, if the mayor ever left the chocolate fountain. Until he did, the back patio was her last option, because the man could—and would—talk to anyone with ears.
“The only way you’re getting out of here is if you pull one of the fire alarms.” Vi’s favorite person in the world came to stand next to her, her head of gray hair, pinned up in an elaborate twist, barely reaching Violet’s chin. “You might have staged a successful breakout ten minutes ago, but your window has long since passed. Snooze, you lose, bae.”
With a low chuckle, Vi rolled her eyes. “How many times have I told you to stop saying bae, Gran? It’s very much over.”
“It’s not over if I continue to use it, now, is it?” A slender silver eyebrow shot up in a silent challenge.
No one openly disagreed with Edie Maxwell, not even Violet. There was a reason you couldn’t read a supernatural textbook without seeing the Prima’s name. The power the Maxwell matriarch had in her pinkie finger could light up not only all of New York City, but the entire Northeast electric grid. She’d stopped countless wars—and maybe started a few minor skirmishes— and had saved more lives throughout the years than anyone could count.
Move over, Superman, because Super Gran is in the house.
“On a scale of one to ten, how noticed do you think it’ll be if I jump ship before the rest of the dessert is brought out?” Vi asked.
“Look at the exits, sweetheart, and look closely.” Gran nudged her gaze to the nearest doorway, located a few feet beyond the coat check.
Vi didn’t see anything except freedom and a future involving the pint of Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie sitting her freezer back home, but knowing her grandma had told her to look closer for a reason, she narrowed her eyes and squinted.
It took a full thirty seconds to see the faint glimmer sliding over the tall archway. She lasered her attention to the patio doors behind the mayor and . . .
Narrow eyes, unfocus, and stare.
Violet cursed. “I should’ve left when Olive did.”
Edie chuckled, not fazed by her colorful vocab. “I knew you’d see it.”
“Mom put alarm charms on the doorways? She went way too far this time,” Vi grumbled before shooting her gran a beamingly bright smile. “But luckily, I have a wickedly awesome granny who would do anything for her favorite granddaughter. Right, bae?”
“You know I don’t have favorites.” Edie patted her arm affectionately, a half smile pulling on her lips. “And don’t say bae. It doesn’t have the same oomph when you say it, dear. As for the jailbreak, as much as I’d love to help you bust out of this joint, I’m afraid my Magic is tied up at the moment. Whoever put up those charms learned from the last time.”

Book Info:
A fake relationship between a magic-less witch and a wolf shifter turns to more in the start of a bewitching new paranormal rom-com series.
Magic-less witch Violet Maxwell wants nothing to do with alpha wolf shifter Lincoln Thorne—the man who broke her fragile, teenage heart. But when the two of them are forced by arcane Supernatural Laws to find mates, Violet and Lincoln agree to fake-date their way to a fake-mating in order to conjure themselves some time.
The joke’s on them. When old feelings make a reappearance—along with Violet’s magic—they both realize there’s nothing fake about their feelings. But there are old secrets and looming threats that could snatch away their happily ever after, again. One thing’s for sure: magic doesn’t make dating and love any easier.
In Not the Witch You Wed, April Asher brings all the hilarity and sweet, sexy moments you love in a romantic-comedy—plus a fun dose of magic—to this spell-binding new series about being sexy, single, and supernatural in New York City.

Meet the Author:
April Asher, aka April Hunt, was hooked on romantic stories from the time she first snuck a bodice-ripper romance out from her mom’s bedside table. She now lives out her own happily-ever-after with her college-sweetheart husband, their two children, and a cat who thinks she’s more dog—and human—than feline. By day, April dons dark blue nursing scrubs and drinks way too much caffeine. By night, she still consumes too much caffeine, but she does it with a laptop in hand, and from her favorite side of the couch.
From the far left cushion, April Asher pens laugh-out-loud romantic comedies with a paranormal twist, but when she’s not putting her characters into embarrassing situations with supernatural entities, she also writes high-octane romantic suspense as April Hunt, her thrill-seeking alter ego who has written the Alpha Ops and Alpha Security series.
