Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Lexi LaFleur Brown to HJ!

Hi Lexi and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Shoot Your Shot!
Please summarize the book for the readers here:
Most hockey players’ superstitions involve unwashed equipment, a patchy beard, or a meticulous tape job, but what happens when they involve your one-night stand who wants nothing to do with you?
Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:
“Who knew hockey was so homoerotic?”
Please share a few Fun facts about this book…
While this book and its characters are fictional, I couldn’t help but be inspired by real conversations, incidences, and people I’ve met throughout my time as an NHL hockey wife. Even the cat scene—yes, that one—was inspired by a very funny conversation in an NHL family room amongst all the wives.
What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?
It’s love at first hip check as these two opposites can’t seem to get away from each other. He falls first for her spontaneity and “I don’t give a F” attitude, but she falls even harder for his soft vulnerability and nerdy side.
Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?
As much as I love to make people laugh, I wanted this rom-com to offer a lot of depth. Lucy and Jaylen really show up for each other throughout this book and in doing so, prove that their emotional connection for each other is deeper than the physical one (and more important than any superstition).
My favorite scene between them is when Lucy helps Jaylen through a panic attack brought on by a “bad game.” Lucy sees him at his perceived worst, and it’s her support that offers him the clarity to confess his true feelings for her.
Readers should read this book….
If the day-to-day NHL drama isn’t enough to satisfy your insatiable need for hockey hotties and the various questionable circumstances in which they find themselves. Oh, and if you like to laugh, swoon, and blush.
What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?
I’m currently working on book #2! It’s due winter 2026. Another romantic comedy with laughs, heart, spice, lots of hockey, and maybe a mascot subplot.
Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from Shoot Your Shot:
This is bad. This is very bad. I rush over to Lucy, who is out
cold, toppled over the team’s bench. She’s bleeding from her
head, and I’m responsible. When I find her pulse, I let out a
long sigh of relief. I softly call out her name and tap her on the
shoulder, trying to wake her up.
What is she doing here anyway? This is not an ideal
situation for my first practice on the team. I’m trying to stay
under the radar, play well enough that Coach Pete keeps me
with the squad and doesn’t demote me to the minors. Instead,
I’m standing over my one-night stand, hoping I didn’t kill her.
Immediately I assume everything she told me last night was
a lie and she’s an overzealous fan who must have been
stalking me for months—why else would she be rinkside right
now? How long has she been following me around? Was her
hard-to-get attitude last night a cover? Worst-case scenario,
she’s not a fan, but a hater who’s trying to sabotage my second
chance.
Lucy looks like she did this morning when I sneaked out of
the hotel room. Her cheeks are rosy and her eyelids are a
smudged smoky gray. Blood trickles down her head, and I
remind myself not to jump to conclusions before she regains
full consciousness.
Before the athletic trainer can get over to us, she starts
moving her limbs and slowly blinks her eyes open. Thank
God.
“Motherfucker!” she shouts into the echoey empty arena.
Her words carry all the way up into the nosebleed seats. She
grabs her head but drops her hand away when she realizes
she’s bleeding. She turns to me and gives me a look similar to
the one players give when they’re trying to fight you.
“I’m so sorry, Lucy,” I say, helping her up into a seated
position.
Coach calls an end to practice and all the guys shuffle off
the ice and back to the locker room. I stay with Lucy and help
her to her feet. She doesn’t say much while the team trainer
and I assist her down the hall to be seen by the team doctor,
Dr. Sara Baker. Lucy moans and groans loudly as we make
our way to the treatment room. The trainer applies pressure on
the wound with gauze and as the once-white cotton soaks
bloodred, I feel absolutely terrible for what I’ve done.
“Thanks, JJ. Why don’t you go hit the showers while she
gets stitched up,” our trainer suggests.
Judging by Lucy’s glare, it’s probably best that I get out of
the way.

Book Info:
Jaylen “JJ” Jones’s hockey career is over. After not securing an NHL contract with the Seattle Rainiers, Jaylen decides to bid the city farewell with a final night of fun, blowing off steam with an anonymous one night stand. But when a last-minute roster spot opens up on the Rainiers, he connects his luck to the girl he spent the night with. Superstitious Jaylen is desperate to keep her around—his career depends on it.
Aspiring tattoo artist Lucy Ross isn’t so sure about the proposition to remain Jaylen’s lucky charm—she’s been called a lot of things in her life, but good luck has never been one of them. But stuck in a career slump, Lucy has everything to gain. Hoping for an apprenticeship hasn’t offered much stability, and Jaylen is willing to pay any price to get Lucy to agree…so maybe sending him a routine text message before each game won’t be too hard.
What starts as an agreement to trade favors—a good luck text in exchange for tattooing practice for Lucy’s portfolio—quickly turns into sizzling chemistry that’s too delicious to deny. But Lucy’s been in too many situationships to even think about getting attached again, and Jaylen is clearly only with Lucy as long as it’s helping his gameplay…
Neither of them expecting getting lucky could be so complicated.

Meet the Author:
Lexi LaFleur Brown comes from a long line of hockey fans, so it was no surprise when she decided to hit the ice herself. Having grown up in the crease, she has seen it all. From the bottom of a dog pile after a big win, to the long quiet bus ride home after a loss and is better having faced both. Hockey laid the foundation for Lexi’s can-do determination, which transferred nicely to her passion for education. She has an MS in Public Relations and a PhD in Education. When Lexi’s not writing hockey romance, she’s chronically online. With a large social media following, she advocates for more inclusivity in hockey, cracks jokes, and shares a glimpse into her own post-meet cute hockey life.

I have always thought about quitting a job in a dramatic way, but I never could.
