Today, HJ is pleased to share with you Jackie Steele’s new release: Under the Midnight Sky
What would you do if you carried a secret so deep, you can’t remember it?
After losing her parents and memory following a tragic accident, twenty-four-year-old Anastasia Hartford is trying to rebuild her life in NYC. When an anonymous note is left for her, and news of an inheritance reaches her, she decides to move to the one place that might just bring back her memories.
What she finds there are questions that lead to more questions…some so intriguing she can’t help but wonder if the mystery surrounding her new home is more than meets the eye. Just below the surface is waiting an unsettling truth that may set Anastasia free…or shatter her forever.
Sexy and charismatic Scott Josh McMillan knows what he wants. Having fought the hardest battle in his life, he isn’t about to let anyone in. When he meets Anastasia, he knows that it’s time to break his own rules. As both struggle to come to terms with their past, could love and healing blossom where hope was once lost?

The sun stands high over the horizon as I step out of the car and into the freezing cold. The driver doesn’t say so much as one word as he helps me with the luggage. Just a simple nod, and then he’s gone, speeding his car over the unpaved gravel driveway.
I try not to take his silence personally and tell myself there must be a reason why the lawyer gave me his contact details. It’s been a few hours since I landed in Scotland, the flight and the long drive to Varmouth both boring and exhausting.
A cold gust of wind sends a shiver through my thin clothes, reminding me I have not packed a winter coat.
For late June, it’s hard to imagine it’s still this cold.
I wipe a hair strand from my face and finally look up at the imposing building.
I know I should not stare. I know I should not be surprised. After all, the lawyer has done a good job of compiling a folder with the information I need.
The estate is just like it is in the pictures. Magnificent. Impressive. Like a castle.
However, in reality, it’s so much bigger and hauntingly beautiful, and its gray stone walls look ancient.
Standing before it, I feel like I’m taken back in time. According to the file, the stunning seventeenth-century property has always been in my grand-uncle’s family.
It’s incredible that people lived in a place like this.
It’s hard to believe I inherited it.
It feels surreal—almost like a dream from which I only have to be woken up.
Even as I ascend the broad stone steps, corroded by wind and snow, and stand before the heavy arched front door, I’m not sure I should enter.
I feel like an intruder. A stranger.
Surely it can’t be mine. Yet, my grand-aunt thought of me when she made her will. And there is something else, something that makes me hold my breath and press my hand against the cold stone wall to stop the sudden feeling of light-headedness.
What if I once stood in the same spot?
What if opening the door brought back my memories?
Was I ready to face them?
“Maybe you knew her, but you don’t remember,” Ira had said.
What if she is right?
