Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Sandra and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Winner Takes All!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

I think of WINNER TAKES ALL as being a multilayered story about choices, luck, and love. The thing that ties all three together is a hero, Patrick Bennett, winning the New York Mega Lottery for an obscene amount of money and wondering what to do with so much money. Visions of endless spending do NOT dance in his head, but rather the unexpected ways in which people try to separate him from his wealth. When he reunites with Jean Travis, a former high school classmate, Jean helps Patrick to focus on the really important things in life; his family, good fortune..and Jean. Jean is biracial, raised by loving parents who’d never married. It becomes apparent that they have always cared for one another and are ready to grab their second chance at love. But, as the saying goes, the course of true love never did run smooth!

Please share your favorite quote from the book:

“I think I do much better when I behave like a grownup,” Patrick said ruelly.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • I had to do a lot of research on hiring a private helicopter for a day.
  • Despite tons of special dinners and receptions Patrick’s favorite meal is Jean taking him for authentic Brooklyn Pizza.
  • Patrick and Jean racing each other to see who reaches and jumps into an outdoor pool. Patrick cheats.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

Jean works for the Mayor’s office and made the official televised announcements of the lottery in which Patrick is the Mega-A-Million winner. Friends host an After Party at a local cafe near City Hall. Patrick invites Jean, but she attends only because she’s still officially on the job. They are the last to leave at the end of the evening. Jean is concerned that Patrick has had too much to drink to drive himself home, and she offers to put him up for the night. Patrick poo poos that he’s fine but Jean demands and takes his car keys. There’s a little push back from Patrick…”no one drives my car…” before Jean officiously digs in her heels, and he gives up. (Really, he would not have given in if he wasn’t a little curious and wanted to extend his time with Jean.)

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

Not to be distracted from the important things in life by the shiny things and money! Love is always going to be what matters most, and what will sustain you when ‘all that glitters’ is gone.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from Winner Takes All:

“The Porsche Cayenne is the first thing I’ve bought myself since the win. I can tell you it felt weird not having to finance.”
“And you hired a driver?”
“He’s not my driver. He works behind one of the cameras. When I asked how he felt about taking my car into the city to get you he jumped all over it. I warned him that if anything happened to you or my car he was roadkill.”

Honestly, I’d hesitate to date a guy who was that rich. That much money complicates things. Besides, the most expensive gifts aren’t always the best ones

  2. Kathleen O

I would like to think that I would ask for something small, like a book I want to read. I would most likely ask for something for a family member in need.

  3. Crystal

I would want my own Mansion with a good sized walk in closet for all my clothes and other stuff he’s going to buy me as a gift along with this mansion with the goodsized closet. That’s what I would want him to get me as my gifts.

  4. Pamela Conway

I’d say a chef & housekeeper! Also a bigger house so I could adopt more dogs from the shelter!!

  5. Kay Garrett

Since I’m not much on monetary gifts, I would hope for a great getaway where we could spend time together doing something fun. Your time is the best gift. It’s something you can only give once.

I’m the least material person ever so I have no idea. When my husband and kinds ask this I always tell them to clean the house for me so I’ll go with that!

I’d like the gift of his time to spend with me taking walks, watching movies, getting to know each other better. I’m not into material gifts.

  8. Tina R

I wouldn’t expect anything. However, if he wanted to buy something, I would hope for something special that he put thought into buying.

  9. Patricia B.

I would hope he would give me the gift of a true and sincere friendship that might develop to more.

I am really impressed with all of the responses to the question, ‘what would you want as a gift…” I’m pretty much of the same mind set. I’m not impressed by huge monetary gifts, and it’s always the little things that mean the most. A nice trip for two…quiet and intimate (read WINNER TAKES ALL for how Patrick and Jean handle the question). Even thinking of giving to someone else is very spot on! Hench, Patrick’s establishing THE MILLIONAIRES CLUB. Winner Takes All is Book #1 Thanks, all!
