Lancaster County Reckoning by Kit Wilkinson: I always enjoy the combination of Amish fiction with suspense! Lancaster County Reckoning is a good example of well written suspense set in a Plain community.

Amish farmer Thomas Nolt meets “English” Darcy when he goes to visit his neighbor, elderly Jesse- Thomas knows Jesse as a man who joined the community twenty years ago, who converted to the Amish faith, not an easy undertaking. Thomas is surprised when Darcy admits she is Jesse’s daughter, a daughter Thomas was not aware existed. Unfortunately Thomas and Darcy enter Jesse’s home to find him nearly dead from a vicious beating.

While at the hospital sitting vigil for Jesse, Thomas and Darcy learn that her father was actually in witness protection, and that she grew up in witness protection with her grandparents, who had told her that her father was dead. Darcy naturally has numerous questions which she seeks answers to from Thomas and Jesse’s bishop, and from the FBI and police. Meanwhile the same assailants who nearly killed Jesse keep hunting for Darcy, convinced she has access to the long ago stolen paintings they are convinced Jesse is in possession of. Through several “near misses”, Thomas keeps Darcy safe, and attraction grows between them which they try to deny.

Will Jesse ever awaken? Will the attackers be found and arrested? What will happen between Thomas and Darcy? These are all questions I encourage my fellow readers to answer by reading this book. I don’t want to spoil the story ! I do highly recommend this book!
