A Cowgirl’s Christmas by CJ Carmichael: Callan Carrigan was the youngest of the Carriagan girls and the only one who had chosen to stay on the ranch when she had a choice. She loved her life. She loved ranching and could do it better almost anyone, including her dad. The problem was she wasn’t really good with emotions or with love. Then one day her world changed dramatically and her father was gone, but the next day would be even worse.
Court McAllister knew Hawksley Carriagan as he came out to see his family every year. He grew up loving the man, he was his uncle after all and he knew when he passed away he was going to carry out at the ranch just like his uncle wanted him to. The only problem was he wasn’t really sure how Hawksley’s daugher’s were going to take that news.
When the death of her father happened Callan was in shock. When she hears his will she spirals further down. Add to that her mother’s diaries and Court McAllister and Callan really doesn’t know what is going on in her life anymore. Can Court convince her that the Circle C needs them both or will her father have made his last stance in her life the hair that broke the camels back?
A Cowgirl’s Christmas was a hard story to read because it told the last story of the Carriagan girls. This can be read as a stand-alone but is more of a heart wrencher if you have read the other stories in the series. The girls are so endearing and it was great to finally learn a bit more as to why Callan is the way she is. There isn’t much good about death but truth/fact finding is important and when things are revealed just make sure you have your tissues handy because Ms. Carmichael doesn’t miss a beat when she is throwing punches.

For years Callan Carrigan has been her father’s right hand man, so when her dad’s will names city slicker Court McAllister the new owner of The Circle C Ranch, Callan feels betrayed on every level.
Then she and her sisters find their mother’s diaries, hidden from them by their father since their mother’s accidental death 18 years ago, and the shocking revelations explain a lot. Reeling, Callan seeks refuge in the local saloon, where it seems no one can reach her, until Court offers her a challenge.
If she agrees to be foreman at the Circle C for one year, he’ll deed the ranch back to her and her sisters. The deal seems too sweet at first—until Callan realizes Court has his eyes on something she protects even more than her family’s land—her heart.

Thank you for stating it shouldn’t be read as a standalone. I always want to know this if I haven’t read a series.
