REVIEW: A Match Made in Texas by Katie Lane

In A Match Made in Texas (Deep in the Heart of Texas #6) by Katie Lane, Brianne Cates was all set to lay low at family-owned Miss Hattie’s Bed & Breakfast after a compromising photo caused a scandal on the internet. Her best intentions went out the window when she almost ran the town sheriff off the road, resulting in her arrest by the very sexy Dusty Hicks. After Bri’s night in the local jail, her family connections come in handy when the judge shows up. Instead of a sentence, he releases her to Sheriff Hicks’ custody for community service as he deems fit. Let the fun begin.

“Let’s be honest, we aren’t talking about a major crime here. All I did was wound your pride. You’re just upset because you got bested by a girl, and now you want to get even.”

Bri is tempted to give in to her major attraction to Dusty–except he seems to continuously go hot and cold. One minute he looks like he wants to devour her, and the next minute he is furious with her. Unsure why he’s acting so strange, Bri decides to just do as she’s told and suffer through until her community service is complete.Along the way, she gets pulled into everything going on with the local townspeople and learns a thing or two about the good sheriff. It seems his ornery attitude stems from some personal issues, which Bri fully understands and hopes to help him correct. But will her own scandal tarnish the good deeds she accomplishes in Bramble?

“I think I might’ve misjudged you, Sheriff Hicks. You might have a heart after all.”
“Doubtful, Miz Cates.”

Sheriff Dusty Hicks’ day took a turn for the worse when socialite Brianne ran him off the highway. Add to that her spouting off lies and trying to evade him, Dusty already knows he’s going to fight to get the book thrown at Bri for her reckless behavior. But why does she have to be so darn beautiful? And especially at a time when he’s trying to keep his personal life clean to help his custody case. So needless to say, the judge’s leniency is a shock, until Dusty realizes Bri’s fate is in his hands. Oh, the fun he could have…but at what expense to his heart and his career?

“How breathless do I make you? He brushed his lips over hers, leaving behind a heated tingle that melted everything inside her. “Do I make you as breathless as you make me?”
Bri’s eyes slid closed. “More. Much more.”

A Match Made in Texas is a funny and quirky romance with a small town setting full of very memorable characters.

There is a lot going on in the plot of book six in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series, but it is all done in such a smooth fashion that it’s a breeze to zip through. I found myself chuckling more often than not while reading about the antics of the zany townsfolk, beginning with the opening scene. Bramble, to me, was like Mayberry gone wild, especially when Reverend Josiah Jessup got everyone all wound up. Now there’s a character that you’ll love to hate. He puts every t.v. evangelist to shame when it comes to their bad reputation of taking from the poor and capitalizing on it for personal gain. Good thing the town has the “hens”: Minnie, Baby, and Sunshine to keep an eye on things and set people straight!

I thought Bri was a really fun character. She was ready to break free from her overprotective brother’s watchful eyes and had become somewhat of a daredevil on the sly. They had no idea she wasn’t as quiet and innocent as she let on. Unfortunately, her wild side gets her in trouble in Bramble, with Dusty ready to make her pay for her actions. It was a bit comical to see how torn he was in his attraction to Bri. (Although I’m sure he didn’t think it was funny…) Dusty gave a good fight, but in the end, his emotions won out. I enjoyed that they were a very passionate couple who were explosive whenever they were together, including their sexy bantering back and forth. Lots of fun!
