In Adam’s Ambition by Monica Tillery, Adam Whitmore never wanted to take his place at the helm of the family business. He is happy with the life he has made and the high-powered job he has in Los Angeles. But when his father called telling him that he needs him to go home for a little while Adam can’t refuse. After loosing his mother suddenly and being unable to see her one more time before she died, he vowed that he would be there for his family and visit more often.

Zoe Miller has done her best to get over Adam and move on. It was not easy in a town so small and being so close to his family. It was hard to be close to them and not feel like the loss of Adam in her life. But the Whitmore’s have always been a part of her family too, and they all love her and did not give up on her.

Now Adam has returned home to turn down his father on taking his place in the family business once and for all, and to help him find a suitable replacement. Only the more time he spends there the more he starts to remember what he liked about the tea business, and the more he learns that it will be challenging with all the changes his father has made in the intervening years. But there is no way that Adam can stay in town if he cannot be with Zoe.

Adam left Zoe for Los Angeles when they graduated from high school and she decided to stay worried about her father’s well being after her parent’s divorce. He promised that he would return, but he stayed in Los Angeles and never returned but for short visits. Now Zoe is afraid to give her heart to him once again only to be left behind. She has made something of herself, opening her own bakery and being her own boss. If she were to follow Adam she is not sure that she would be able to succeed again and what if Adam doesn’t want to stay with her for the long run, where would that leave her?

Adam will have a tough time convincing Zoe to give him another chance. And he better be sure that this time he will follow through, for if he fails her one more time, Zoe may never be able to forgive him again. Adam will have many challenges ahead of him, one of them being Zoe’s dad and his problems, another the farm and a possible threat not to mention their neighbor who hates them since his father and him split the business.
