Baby Surprise for the Millionaire by Ruby Basu: Saira hasn’t seen Nathan for a good many years. They parted and went their own ways. Nathan worked hard to advance his career and Saira left for the United States to pursue her own dreams. She even made her family happy by marrying a man with an Indian background. It was an arranged marriage, but Saira and Dilip grew to love each. The loss of a pregnancy and then the death of Dilip sent her back to England to decide her future.

Miranda, who has been Saira’s best friend forever, invites her to a lavish engagement party to be held in Malta at a resort. Since this is a last minute development, Saira get put in Nathan’s bungalow. He is Miranda’s brother and he should stay occupied with his buddies who are called The Six Month Men. This is apt since none them seem to be able to be in a relationship longer than that time period.

Nathan is just as handsome and charming as ever and he sees Saira is still lovely. They can’t help the renewed sparks and decide that a short term fling will be okay. It is no spoiler to say that the title of this book tells the consequences of this fling.

A good bit of this story revolves around how the two will move forward. Should they marry, should they live apart and have visits and what will be best for the baby. It was a little too much at times and I would have given this book an even higher grade if some of this ongoing discourse was pared down and there was perhaps more backstory for the two main characters.

I loved that the author used a cross cultural love story. The world needs more love and to be shown we are all more alike than different no matter where we come from.

Nathan and Saira both had to deal with loss on several levels and that added to their growth over the course of the story arc. Their romance has lots of sizzle to it.

Baby Surprise for the Millionaire is Ruby Basu’s debut novel for Harlequin. I wish her lots of success as she continues her writing career.
