In Bad Bones (A Claire Morgan Homicide Thriller) by Linda Ladd, when homicide detective Claire becomes involved in the brutal death of a cage fighter, she is about to be drawn into a world of violence, crime, and danger.

BBFound frozen and beaten to death, Paulie leaves behind a mystery that is difficult to unravel. Claire must rely on her instincts, training, and some inside help from her fiancee Black to find out the truth. As she delves deeper into the mystery, Claire has to deal with a feuding family who live according to their rules, the mob, rumors of inconceivable violence, and twisted, creepy people.

At the same time that Claire is on the hunt for a killer, she has issues in her personal life and relationship with Black that require her attention. Claire has a lot going on, and the closer she gets to answers the more frightening the truth is. Will Claire find herself in a killers path?

Bad Bones is part of a series and I would recommend reading the previous books first. I didn’t and felt like I was missing quite a bit with regards to Claire’s background and her and Black’s relationship.

Claire can be quite abrasive at times, but she lets nothing stand in the way of her getting her job done. She really is fearless! As I said I felt like I was missing a lot about her and Black’s relationship which is probably explained through out the other books, but I didn’t always like how she acted with him. She was a bit of a difficult character to really like at times, even if I did admire her for her job. I really enjoyed Black and what we saw of him. He is obviously dedicated to Claire and in love with her. He’s protective, helpful, but doesn’t stand in her way.

Bad Bones has a lot of secondary characters with their own stories, sometimes it did get a little confusing until I managed to sort them all out. Linda does a great job of writing in these secondary characters, some of whom will creep you out.

Bad Bones has a very intriguing plot line and good flow, but it is very violent and gruesome a lot of the time. Linda writes very descriptively from the violence to the cold weather. Linda keeps the suspense up through out Bad Bones with plots twists and turns that kept me guessing.

I would recommend Bad Bones if you like thrilling suspense that is very graphic.
