Bound by a Baby Bump by Ellie Darkins: What happens when someone who needs a plan to feel safe meets a person who feels trapped when he even sees a calendar? What happens when these two people are now tied together for life?
Rachel Archer always had to have a ball. Since the time she was fourteen she never went anywhere without one. It’s one thing that made her so good at her job. Yes she had a social life and yes she knew how to remake plans but there was always a plan.
Leo Fairfax HATED to be trapped and for him being trapped meant planning, calendars and anything that tied him down. He was much happier doing things he loved and though yes he was a trust fund baby he didn’t live like one nor was he ever planning to.
When Leo and Rachel meet at a fundraiser she is working it’s almost like oil and vinegar and yet there is an attraction neither can deny and Rachel is “forced” to re plan her evening. As you can expect though it’s not just one evening that she is forced to re think and re plan. Instead it’s the rest of her life. What happens when you put a planner with a non-planner though? Will they be able to accept each other or will their own needs be more than the needs of their new little one?
Talk about the improbable, there are always exceptions to every rule but Ms. Darkins seems to take those exceptions and make them into the rules in this novel. The writing style is wonderful, upbeat, flows and with enough twists to keep you interested. The characters have a few consistency issues though and I’m not sure why they make the choices that they make and that is a bit harder for me to understand. That said the descriptions are amazing and overall the story is wonderful.
