REVIEW: Colton Threat Unleashed by Tara Taylor Quinn

In Colton Threat Unleashed by Tara Taylor Quinn, Sebastian Cross runs a facility training search and rescue dogs. Ruby Colton is the veterinarian for the facility and has developed a friendship with Sebastian. When a moment of comfort turned into something more, it left them both with an unexpected surprise.

When suspicious things start happening around the facility, it’s not clear if the perpetrator is after Sebastian or Ruby. What is clear is that two people who never imagined having a family are now faced with having to protect each other and their unborn child.

I’ll start off by saying that while no dogs were killed in this book, the villain does attempt to do so. While it’s only one small scene, I know that animal abuse can be a trigger for some people. If that’s you, you may want to skip this one, or just skip over the scene in question.

I liked both Ruby and Sebastian together. They’re both people who prefer to keep to themselves, or to their close circle of friends and family. Sebastian suffers from PTSD, and Ruby can recognize that one of the dogs can be trained as a service dog for him. They’re both fiercely protective of each other and the animals at the training facility.

Readers also get an introduction to Ruby’s brothers, and I’m looking forward to reading more about them in the future. It’s clear they’re a close-knit family who are always there for one another.

This is the first book in The Colton’s of Owl Creek, and it was a great start to the series. I’m generally not a fan of the accidental pregnancy trope, as I feel it’s been overdone, but the author did a good job with the way she wrote it into the story. The suspense is well written and will hook readers from beginning to end. The characters are both likeable and relatable with excellent chemistry. Of course, there’s also the dogs for those readers who love them. Fans of romantic suspense are in for a treat with this one.
