REVIEW: Colton’s K-9 Rescue by Colleen Thompson

Colton’s K-9 Rescue by Colleen Thompson is book number twelve in The Coltons of Owl Creek series, each written by a different author. While it may be helpful to read the previous books in the series to better understand the on-going threat to the Colton family, it’s not necessary and you could read this as a standalone.

Malcolm Colton is determined to take down the fugitive who has been terrorizing his family. Despite orders from the head of his search-and-rescue team, Malcolm and his K-9 head out into the mountains during a storm to search for him. What they come across instead is Giselle Dowling, a ghostwriter that Malcolm knew from his past.

After blowing up her career, Giselle finds herself out in the mountains to determine her next steps. What she doesn’t expect is for Malcolm, her deceased sister’s fiancé, to show up on her doorstep during a storm. The pair decide to team up to find the target, but with danger lurking around every corner, so are growing feelings. Will the pair be able to find a way to help each other heal from their loss?

Both Malcolm and Giselle are still dealing with the loss of the person they loved. I’m not usually a big fan of stories where a hero/heroine gets involved with their deceased partner’s sibling, but I thought the author handled the way they came together well.

The author also does a good job of creating a suspenseful story that will keep readers waiting to see what happens next. There’s plenty of action, and the author manages to blend it well with the romance.

I can’t say that Malcolm and Giselle are my favorites out of the Colton couples. I wasn’t initially a fan of Giselle’s, and she took a while to grow on me. That being said, I did enjoy the story overall and would recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.
