Daddy Says “I Do” by Stacey Connelly: When Kara’s sister Marti died, she left custody of her son Timmy to Kara. Up until now, Marti had never acknowledged who the father of Timmy was, she admitted to not telling the father about Timmy. Upon her death Kara is given a letter Marti had written for her…naming the father and asking her to take Timmy to him.
After the death of her infant daughter, Kara thought she’d never be a mother again. She feels like she’s been give another chance with Timmy but recluctantly heads to Clearville to find Sam, Timmy’s father. Kara runs into Sam even before she checks into her motel in Clearville…but she doesn’t tell him who he is, and she definitely does not tell him whoTimmy is! Kara has decided she needs to check Sam out first, find out what kind of man he is, and whether or not he will be a good Dad for Timmy.
Despite Sam’s love of bachelorhood, he is unwittingly drawn to Kara. As far as Sam knows, Kara is only in town for 2 weeks, but they start to see more of each other. Kara still doesn’t tell Sam about Timmy…she is busy analyzing everything he does and says, trying to decide if he will be a good father…even if she does recognize what she’s feeling for Sam as more than lust! Kara knows she wants to be in Timmy’s life…more than an aunt he sees once in a while. What will Sam want when he learns the truth?
And the truth does come out!! Unfortunately for Kara it’s not her telling Sam about Timmy. Sam is shocked and loses a lot of the trust he has begun to feel for Kara. Sam is twisted up inside, trying to decide what is best for Timmy. He feels that Kara and him are from 2 different worlds. She’s a highly educated big city girl. He’s a mechanic in a small town who struggled throughout his school years. Sam has a big, boisterous family, he is a happy go with the flow kind of guy. Kara has 2 very controlling parents it seems like she’s spent most of her life trying to please,but feels they are always disappointed in her.
Even as all this is going on, Kara and Sam still feel the sparks between them…but if anything can become of Sam and Kara, one of them is going to have to make big changes in their life. Kara needs to work out her issues with her parents and do what is best for her, not them, before she can move forward no matter what she decides.
Will Sam and Kara be able to find a common ground in something other than Timmy? Can they make it work so that they will both be in Timmy’s life? Can they put their differences aside and decide what will be best for Timmy?
Daddy Says “I Do” was a smoothly written, fast flowing book that was easy to read. The plot is not highly original, but it was a good read despite that. I really liked Sam and his family! They were a close knit family, looking out for each other. Sam has struggled with what sounds like an undiagnosed learning disability, but he is now doing what he loves to do and is good at it! Kara annoyed me to be honest. Yes, she had her own issues to deal with, one heart breaking one, but how come she appointed herself judge and jury of whether or not Sam would make a good Dad? I realize she thought it was all for Timmy’s best interest, but there was a bit of a selfish motive there too. She was a bit harder for me to like for this reason! I liked her friend Olivia, she was a voice of reason in Kara’s controlling world!
Anyone looking for a fast romantic read where you can have very real feelings towards the characters, I’d recommend this to!
