Doc Showmance by Zoe Forward: Veterinarian Amber Hardin was almost finished with her residency and working at the San Diego Animal Emergency Hospital had given her a lot of experience. She hated the TV reality show part of her job but didn’t mind the extra money it paid. Sometimes her mouth got her into trouble, but it provided great material for the TV reality show. With their show ratings going down, the producer’s solution is a showmance between her and Ian Todd, her nemesis from vet school. She is not sure how she can fake date him, but she needs the extra money they promise her if she goes along with it.
“Sure, she’s a pit bull, which is why this is going to be so great. You’re eye candy, and she’s drama. Bonus if she hates your guts.”
Veterinarian Ian Todd, star in the Vet in the Wild TV show, had always regretted what happened between him and Amber in vet school. He had always admired her gutsy way of telling it how it was and how she puts all her effort into caring for her patients. He wished he could go back in time and have something real with Amber. He didn’t want to fake date her, but his career was at stake if he didn’t comply with the producer’s plans and he had worked too hard to get away from his parent’s clutches.
“I’ve never met anyone else who looked beyond my exterior and got what’s inside. You’ve always been able to see me when no one else could… I’m not sure you comprehend the magnitude of that.”
I really enjoyed reading this book and watching Amber and Ian go from enemies to lovers. They both were interested in each other in vet school but Ian’s prank hurt Amber. I loved seeing the competitiveness and witty interactions between them. Amber was sassy, brutally honest, and willing to fight for her patient’s health. Ian was strong and had worked hard to break away from his wealthy family’s wishes and fake world.
They were perfect for each other. This was a light and funny romance with an amusing storyline. It was well written, and I felt like the author did a great job balancing the romance and the reality show setting. I loved that we got to see more of their interactions and their relationship grow while they were away from the show. It was a perfect balance.

I would say Dr. Ian Todd is my archenemy. But that would require us acknowledging each other, which we haven’t done since we graduated veterinary school.
He’s famous. As in, he’s the world’s “Sexiest Veterinarian Alive” with his own wildlife TV show and a string of glamorous girlfriends.
I’m infamous as a reality TV emergency veterinarian with a snark mouth, take-no-crap attitude, and zero dating life.
When asked to fake a romance with him on TV to boost my ER show’s ratings, I want to say no-way, but the extra money will pay off my brother’s loan shark debt. Even though Ian broke my heart, playing his love interest shouldn’t be hard, especially if it means getting to watch him squirm.
Lines get blurred when the TV setups stop feeling fake. Can I chance this might be real love?
