In Fangs for the Memories (Half-Moon Hollow #4.5) by Molly Harper, It’s getting tougher and Fangs-for-the-Memoriestougher for human Andrea Byrne to give sexy vampire Dick Cheney (NOT the former vice president) the brush off. There’s something intriguing about him. Okay, so his sketchy business dealings and his overly flirtatious ways may have thrown her at first. But he’s proved to be a loyal part of her group of friends in Half-Moon Hollow. And when Dick steps in to take care of Andrea just when she needs him the most, it may push her feelings straight into the romance zone.

‘I found myself looking forward to every little interaction with him as an indulgence. It was like ice cream. I knew it wasn’t good for me, but it always made me feel better. As long as he stayed in his little box marked “Nope!” I was safe.’

Andrea has been badly burned in love before so she has to be cautious. She’s not sure what her friend Jane Jameson would tell her to do in the situation, but given that Jane has her hands full with her childhood friend Zeb’s wedding and the passing of her boss Mr. Wainwright, Andrea will deal with it herself. Should she take a chance on mischievous Dick Cheney and accompany him to Zeb’s wedding? Or will announcing to their friends that they’re dating be a catastrophe waiting to happen?

I sighed. “It’d be wrong, wouldn’t it? Just to use you for your body?”
Dick stared off into space for a moment, eyes slightly glazed over.
“Dick?”
“Sorry, I need a minute to collect myself,” he said, squirming uncomfortably in his jeans. “Okay, I’m collected. I’d be fine with you just using me for my body. It’s mutually beneficial.”

Fangs for the Memories was a quickie novella that gave Nice Girls and Half-Moon Hollow fans their first true glimpse into how super-cute couple Dick Cheney and Andrea Byrne got together. I mean, we knew it was inevitable. But this was a fun look at their chemistry and their first close interactions.

Dick Cheney is one of my favorite characters in the Half-Moon Hollow world Molly Harper has created so I was thrilled to get some more insight on the slightly sketchy, secretly romantic vampire. And I loved every second we got to spend with him. (Jane Jameson will always, always be my favorite character overall!) Now, this novella was told from Andrea’s POV, which was also nice, getting to see the wacky cast from her perspective as a human among the vamps and werewolves.

I loved that we saw a side of both Andrea and Dick that were hinted at in the full length installments but were more detailed here. Andrea explains her troubled romantic past and how it led to her moving to Half-Moon Hollow and her family disowning her. I now understand why she brushed off Dick’s advances for so long. And it was interesting to see how tender and caring Dick was toward Andrea, especially during a scene when she had been attacked at one of her jobs. As much as I love his flirty Southern way of teasing, to see the genuine attraction and feelings grow between them was uber romantic and left me smiling.

I think Molly Harper fans who have followed these characters from the beginning will get the most out of this short story. It made me happy to finally get the details I’ve been craving and to spend a little bit more time with my favorite paranormal romance crew. Thank you for indulging your fans, Molly!

How did Andrea and Dick Cheney fall in love? Join Half-Moon Hollow’s favorite couple for a trip down memory lane—to a time when Mr. Wainwright was newly dead, Jane Jameson was a newbie vampire, and a budding paranormal romance was not yet uncorked…

Half-Moon Hollow’s supernatural social event of the season—Zeb’s Titanic-themed werewolf wedding—is coming up, and Dick Cheney (not that Dick Cheney!) needs a date. But Andrea’s had enough of clever, handsome, and rakish to last a lifetime, and Dick Cheney is certainly not the sort of man you bring home to mom (not that Andrea’s deadist parents are speaking to her ever since she dropped out of college and became a blood surrogate.) Shameless, relentless, roguish, with a Stetson-worthy swagger, a naughty sparkle in his eyes, and a constant smirk—oh, and fangs—no, Dick is the last person (er…vampire) Andrea wants to date.

But the infuriatingly irresistible man who lives quietly on the edge of a criminal underworld knows exactly what he wants, and once he surprises Andrea with a thrilling hot and dirty kiss behind the paranormal bookshop, she knows what she wants too: Dick. All it takes to ignite their unconventional courtship is a near-undeath experience that confronts Dick with a choice between turning Andrea, losing her forever, or tapping into his countless shady resources).
