Forbidden Lovers by Kimberly Troutte: Secrets are always damaging. It doesn’t seem to matter how much the person who is lying is trying to protect the other, someone is going to get hurt.

Julia Espinoza fell in love at a young age. She didn’t just kind of fall in love with the wrong boy, she fell head over heels forever and a day in love with the boy whose family owned the entire island and she never should have met, and yet they did. Then abruptly he left joining the navy and passed away, or so she was told. She was left a teenager with a secret that couldn’t stay a secret for long.

Matt Harper knew he wasn’t supposed to fall in love, and especially not so seriously at such a young age. However even he couldn’t stop his heart from feeling what it was feeling and there was just no stopping what he believed. When the love of his life was threatened though and only he could banish that threat, he did what every teenager would do and tried to stop it.

Now ten years later secrets are starting to emerge and pasts and presents are meeting. The future is counting on this one weekend and what may come out of it, will it be forever together or forever lost?

This is an interesting novel from Ms. Troutte and I will be honest with you, as a reader I’m not sure how I felt about it. It is the start of a series that has a lot of potential, but the characters are spotty and the plot a bit thin. It’s almost as if everything was plotted out really well but forgotten to be flushed out. If the series builds on top of each other though than this will be something to look out for in the stores. For now though and for this as a single it’s okay, but not something to run and reach for.
