REVIEW: Hard Rules by Lisa Renee Jones

Hard Rules (Dirty Money #1) by Lisa Renee Jones is the first in a new series and packs quite a punch as our characters battle between what’s right and what’s wrong.

Shane is an attorney who specializes in corporate law, but at the moment the only thing that matters is keeping his family business on the straight and narrow, which is extremely hard considering his father and brother are just fine with getting their hands dirty. Neither one of these two have a conscience, but Shane certainly does. Speaking of his family members, they are crazy! When he runs into Emily, she provides him with the escape he desperately needs…even if it’s only for a little while.

It doesn’t take Shane and Emily long to assess each other and get to the root of their issues. Shane is all about control and his moves are calculated. We don’t know much about Emily except that she’s running from something and wanted to be a lawyer. In fact, everything about Shane’s life, Emily covets…except for the backstabbing family members. Everything is secretive with her and just when we think we’re going to find something out, the author proves us wrong and leaves us hanging.

Shane and Emily fall for each other pretty instantly but none of this is easy for them.

“She’s a drug I could easily call an addiction when I don’t have addictions, and at a time I’d be nothing but poison to her. That’s a problem for her and me.”

For Shane, Emily has become his anchor. The only thing keeping him from crossing the line, but his family’s betrayal and secrets might just be too much to handle. Emily is prepared to be there for Shane and offer her assistance to him, but when she gets too close will the secrets she’s desperately trying to keep, break through?

Lisa Renee Jones might just be the queen of cliffhangers. She’s brilliant at leaving readers begging for more, so beware, Shane and Emily’s story is far from over. With complex characters, scorching hot sex scenes, and an engaging storyline, readers will absolutely want to grab this book!
