REVIEW: Hardpressed by Meredith Wild

Hardpressed: The Hacker Series #2 by Meredith Wild continues the story of Erica and Blake. Erica remains determined to learns the ins and outs of running her own business without Blake’s interference. They are learning to compromise and Erica is picking her battles. They are closer than ever as Erica is learning to trust in Blake and open up.

“Are you interested? I could possibly find someone else in a pinch,” I teased.
“Over my dead body.” He tightened his embrace, pressing me deliciously close, melding my body to his.
“It’s black tie. I’m assuming you can retire the witty T-shirts and clean up nice?”

Erica is expanding the business and networking. When it comes to business, Erica is willing to do what she needs to, including pushing Blake to open up about his own past, to ensure the livelihood of her company. But in their personal relationship, she is willing to let Blake have more control.

“I need you to do two things.”
“Great. What does the master of the universe decree?”
“Drink a bottle of water. Drink the whole thing and take four ibuprofen. Sounds like you’re going to need them.”
“Yes, sir,” I groaned, ready to hang up and make my way to the kitchen.

Unexpected connections continue to be a source of conflict for both Erica and Blake. When Erica gets some surprising news, she’s faced with a difficult choice as she balances what consequences she can accept for herself and Blake.

Hardpressed continues the angst, drama, and heat from Hardwired while driving the overall story forward. The Hacker series will make more sense if read in order. Meredith Wilder continues to push her characters and test them as they battle their pasts. Ms. Wilder also builds the Hacker world as more characters are introduced and secrets are revealed. I appreciated how lighthearted and humorous moments were worked in to balance the drama and angst. Fans of Lisa Renee Jones and Sylvia Day will love Hardpressed!
