In Healed (Bondi Bay Heroes #3) by her Army Doc by Meredith Webber , Kate Mitchell thought she’d never see Angus Caruth again after the incredible night they spent together three years ago. However, when she discovers she’ll be working with him, she knows she’s going to have to do her best to keep her distance. Yet, keeping her distance isn’t easy. Will Kate give Angus another chance or will she walk away from her shot at happiness because she’s haunted by the past and a secret she doesn’t know if she’ll ever be able to tell him?

“It was survivor sex, if that makes sense, yet…”
“It was more than that?” Alice asked gently.
Kate nodded. “It seemed that way,” she murmured, a little of the remembered passion sparking to life inside her. “We’d been through so much together, it was as if we had a…bond, I suppose, is the only way to describe it. A special bond.”=

With the books I’ve read by Ms. Webber so far, I’ve found her characters to be interesting and entertaining, and this couple are no different. Really, they have quite the history that had me reading quickly, determined to discover what happened in their lives once they went their separate ways after their night together during a time that was scary for both; a time that I could understand why they turned to each other for comfort, even though the hero shouldn’t have pursued her. However, it was from the moment they come face-to-face and discover they’ll be working together where this story gets interesting, as the heroine is determined to keep her distance because there’s something in her past she doesn’t want the hero to know. Will she be able to keep her distance?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, their past history and the medical emergencies they face that prove how resilient and courageous the heroine is. No way will she not do everything in her power to help someone that needs her skills as a doctor. However, there were also moments that had me smiling since Angus is so charming and upfront about what he can and can’t offer in terms of a relationship. No way would he get the heroine’s hopes up if she was looking for more from him. Will she give Angus a chance? Will Angus be able to win the heroine over, especially once he realizes the depth of his feelings for Kate?

“What?” she demanded, turning back to see him smiling at her.
“You could never play poker,” he teased.
“Why not?” she asked, and he laughed.
“Every thought you have is written on your face, every doubt shadowed in your eyes.” And, still smiling added, “I won’t rush you into this, Kate.”

With the main characters, I absolutely loved Angus. He’s smart, charming, confident and I liked how determined he was to win Kate over because there’s still something between them, even though he doesn’t know whether he’ll ever be able to give Kate the life she deserves. Is Angus’s work too important for him to give it up for love? While Kate, I could understand why she’s hesitant to give Angus a chance after everything she’s been through, but I liked that she couldn’t stay away from him. Yet, what I liked most of all about Kate was her kind and caring nature and that she would do anything for her friends and patients, which is proven by everything she does as part of the rescue team and what she does for her friend, Harriet, who has gone through a rough time after what happened to her.

“I’ll make peace with Mum,” Kate promised her aunt. “We’re already talking and when Angus has been at Bayside long enough to take some time off, we’ll fly north to see them. He’s already won some brownie points by being Scottish!
Alice laughed and kissed Kate’s cheek. “Just be happy, both of you. I know it’s trite and cliched but make the most of every day and never be afraid to show your love.”

Overall, Ms. Webber has delivered a really good read in this book where the secondary characters entertained me just as much as the main ones because the hero and heroine certainly need the advice they’re given by their friends and family; the chemistry between this couple was strong; the romance delightful and had me loving that these two got their second chance at happiness; and the ending had me loving Kate’s bravery because how could she possibly live without Angus when he means so much to her and has from the moment they met years ago. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as these two deserve the happiness they’ve found after all they’ve been through. I would recommend Healed by her Army Doc by Meredith Webber, if you enjoy medical romances and books by authors Ann McIntosh, Alison Roberts, Marion Lennox and Charlotte Hawkes.
