REVIEW: Heiress’s Pregnancy Scandal by Julia James

In Heiress’s Pregnancy Scandal by Julia James, Nic and Fran might be two extremely different people from opposite worlds, but who says they can’t fall in love? When the two met in America while both on business trips, they proved that chemistry cannot be denied or ignored. Even when they went their separate ways, that attraction was still there. So when Fran and Nic unexpectedly run into each other again abroad, learning exactly who each other is in the world of business and society, things don’t go well. Especially once Fran realizes she’s pregnant. Then their well-ordered worlds will have to be adjusted to accommodate their impending bundle of joy.

“The stars will burn for aeons, for a time we cannot grasp or fathom…” her voice was still husky, a whisper, and her eyes were clinging to his, his to her “…but this night, now, is ours.”

The Heiress’s Pregnancy Scandal was a sweeping tale that paired a modern day royal with a self-made billionaire, bringing us the sparks of attraction you would expect. But that all changed when they learned of each other’s real identities. Then there were fireworks of a very different type: that of distrust and anger.

‘She carries my child. It grows within her. Invisible–but there. Binding me to her. And her to me. Beyond all that separates us.’

There were times when the Heiress’s Pregnancy Scandal almost read as two different stories. It was a fun and absolutely lovely road trip-type romance when Fran and Nic first met in America. I loved seeing Fran as her natural nerdy self, talking about astrophysics and being rather carefree. And Nic was an open-minded, sensual man when he let his guard down, especially around Fran who hung the moon and stars for him.

It was when Nicolo and Donna Francesca met as their true selves that it all went awry for them–and for me. There was such animosity and closed-minded thinking with both characters that it put me off for a while as it overshadowed even the unexpected pregnancy portion of their journey. Once there was some communication between the couple, though, I enjoyed the path author Julia James took them on. And I have to admit they had a truly sweet and romantic ending after the rough start. It did make everything Nic and Fran put each other through worth it overall.
