Hell Breaks Loose by Sophie Jordan: Grace hates to be in the spotlight. Hell-Breaks-LooseShe only wants to go to grad school, but she finds it near impossible to say no to her parents. Grace may be the President’s daughter, but she really struggles with public events. Now that the pressure is on to marry the man handpicked by her father during his re-election campaign, she just needs a break. Unfortunately, that break from her detail results in being kidnapped.

Reid regrets some of the choices he’s made. He had to be responsible for his brother and mom while way too young for that responsibility and he trusted the wrong person, which is how he ended up serving prison time. He’s been planning his escape for a while now, and the kidnapping of the President’s daughter becomes fortuitous timing.

Reid has a plan to enact once he’s escaped, but it never included Grace. While he has become hardened during his time in prison, he still can’t harm a woman. Grace knows that Reid is somehow different from the rest of the men who kidnapped her, and he is her only option to make it out alive.

“I’m not yours I’m not property.”
He waved a hand around the room. “Here, that’s exactly what you are. This isn’t your world anymore, princess, and if you hope to survive, you need to play by my rules and do exactly what I say.”

Grace finds herself in a way. Being kidnapped and cut off from everyone in her life gives her the time and space to really consider what she wants and if she’s still willing to fall in line with her parents’ plans. While Reid has gotten her away from the others, she’s not entirely sure she can trust him. He has an agenda and it doesn’t include letting her go.

Grace and Reid are from very different worlds, but they are able to connect over some similarities in their lives and they challenge each other. They are stuck together for the time being and Reid is determined to meet his own standards and moral code despite the temptation of Grace. The attraction is inconvenient and confusing, especially for Grace.

“Careful, little girl. This is a game you don’t want to start with me.”
It was her turn to frown. “I’m not a little girl.”
“Then you know that kissing leads to other things.”
“Sure. And it’s not anything I haven’t done before.”
