In Her Best Laid Plans by Cara McKenna, Jamie Webb’s first night in Ireland starts off surrounded by *ahem* older gentlemen in a local pub instead of the rugged young Irishmen of her dreams. Just when she was ready to call it a night, Jamie spots a new bartender taking over for the evening who is absolutely gorgeous. Connor Kelleher embodies everything she is looking for. He’s a tad shy but still flirty, he has piercing blue eyes and a killer body, his accent is to die for, and he seems to be as taken with her as she is with him. Connor might be the perfect guy with which to have some casual fun on her vacation.
‘He was so many lovers in one–worshiping, needy, selfish, rough, tender, sensual, playful. A dozen flavors of male in a single body. Anything she could wish for.’
Playful flirting soon proves there is some serious chemistry between Jamie and Connor. Before she can say Guinness, they begin a whirlwind affair that is as passionate and strong as any relationship she has dreamed of having some day. But she is only in Ireland for nine days. Unsure if the intensity of her feelings is due to the definite end date of their fling, or if she has really fallen for Connor, Jamie has no idea how she’ll be able to leave him behind as she heads home to Boston.
‘She’d crossed a country for a man before, but an ocean was too far.’
Her Best Laid Plans is a fun & sexy novella set in the beauty that is Ireland. Thanks to Cara McKenna’s stellar writing, I think I may have found my newest book boyfriend: Connor Kelleher. *dreamy sigh*
I have to say it. God bless Cosmo Red-Hot Reads. I can always count on these stories to be smart, sexy as hell, and to have fully developed storylines even though they are novella length. Her Best Laid Plans is no exception to this rule. I felt a connection to Jamie right away, could sense her excitement at a chance to have fun in a foreign country…and possibly have a romantic fling. She was on the rebound after a long-term relationship and wasn’t looking for anything serious. But sometimes that’s when love sneaks in and surprises us most. And that is exactly what happens with Connor. I thought her reaction to her feelings seemed very genuine. I can completely understand being torn between wanting to pursue this new relationship with him, but still wanting to go home to Boston and put her plans for college into motion.
And Connor. Wow. Now, this being written from Jamie’s POV, we don’t get a glimpse of Connor’s thoughts, but we do get to see his wonderful personality through her eyes. So, there’s just something about a guy with an Irish brogue anyway. But combine that with Connor’s multifaceted personality and you have a recipe for a heartbreaker. Thank goodness his intentions were simply to enjoy the time they had together and show Jamie a wonderful time. We should all be so lucky!
I would highly recommend this to those of you who love really hot contemporary romance with a fabulous ending. Although, I wouldn’t be upset if we got to read more about Jamie & Connor in the future…just sayin’!
