In Her Rancher Rescuer by Donna Alward, Amy Wilson has lived her entire life being judged in her small town, she was always found lacking in every way.
Now after basically being insulted and humiliated in front of all the guest at Avery and Callum’s wedding, Amy runs to the restroom to lick her wounds and plan her escape. Only as she is hiding there, some of the female guests go in there and begin to make fun of her making her feel even worse. Amy remains unmoving trying to remain unseen and plans to leave as soon as possible, but when she thinks the coast is free someone else walks in and knocks on her door and gives her a few tissues.
Jack overheard the cutting comments towards Amy and saw the hurt in her eyes right before she made a run for the restroom. And him having a bit of a hero complex, he could not let things lie still. That’s how he found himself locked in the women’s restroom with Amy and talking her into playing an act with him. Making everyone think that the things said did not hurt her and that they were not exactly just using the facilities. Then asking her to dance with him before they left the reception and kissing her in front of everyone helped things along. But what neither expected was the chemistry between them that came to life. And for the first time, Jack is faced with ending the night in a completely innocent way instead of ending it in the morning with Amy.
But things will go one step further when Jack finds out that his housekeeper and guest coordinator at his ranch had an accident. He needs a temp for a few weeks, but with the holidays he doesn’t believe that he will be able to find anyone. Fortunately Amy wants to study hotel hospitality and this will let her know if it’s something for her, so she asks him to take her out of town as a temp.
Now living under closer quarters and being able to be herself, Amy will discover the real woman that has been hiding under the façade she played for the people in her hometown, someone that Jack will admire and fall for very easily. But his past error and a betrayal from a woman he thought he could trust but ended up destroying all his dreams keep him from taking a chance at something that can last a lifetime.
This is a really nice story, Amy was a great heroine that no matter how many times she was put down by everyone around her she kept picking herself up and moving on with her life. She fought for her happiness and tried to help her mother move on with hers. Jack was a nice hero, I just didn’t like that he didn’t really want to fight for forever, even when he saw it slipping through his fingers. But time always makes sure to show you the error of your ways and the heart doesn’t stay quiet when it wants something. Something that Jack will learn with time.
For a sweet, heartbreaking and great ending to the Cadence Creek series, don’t miss Her Rancher Rescuer by Donna Alward.
